The Best
The water is very hard in my area and I do not like salt based water softeners. In the past, I have tried permanent magnet based de-scalers, with limited success. Since these have a static magnetic field then their effect seems to be determined by water velocity and, therefore, do not perform well when water flow is low. The EDDY, however, is based on an AC field and does not have this problem. I have had the EDDY for two months now and it has performed flawlessly. When I first received it, for example, I cleaned a small nozzle based shower head and recommissioned it. This unit had been set aside because it always clogged with calcium deposits. I also cleaned the glass shower doors and dishwasher. Now, after two months of use, none of these items show any evidence of calcium deposits. The water also seems softer when using shampoos, etc. I believe there may be several reasons for some reviewers to not have a good experience. These are all easy mistakes to make during the installation, especially if the instructions are not carefully followed. Of course, too many of us fall into that category. 1. It is very easy to make a mistake in winding the coils and, therefore, end up with opposing coils. 2. It is very easy to get the coil wires mixed up and this can have the same effect as a wrong winding 3. As stated in the instructions, this unit will not work on iron pipe, but how many homeowners know the difference and most water supply lines are iron pipe. 4. The electronics unit is best when it is located close to the coils 5. Expectations are too often tied to a water softener instead of a de-scaler and this occurs because customers often do not understand the difference 6. As stated in the manual, existing water pipes may have significant hard water build up in them from the past. If this is the case, then it will take some time for this to be descaled out by the conditioned water and this may initially delay optimum results. Lastly, I believe the price is reasonable and the unit is a good value. So far, the quality seems to be there as I have had zero problems. Update: It's now been almost 5 months since I installed the Eddy and my "rain shower" still does not show any issues with hard water deposits. This is one of the older shower heads with metal, not rubber, nozzles so deposits normally show quickly. Also, my glass shower doors stay clear with normal cleaning and my 15 year old water heater has been performing better. Additionally, my dishwasher is still clean. Obviously, there have not been any problems with the Eddy, either, so my report is all positive.

Quick to install, worked within a day or two! 🌈💦
I didn’t realize how hard our spring water was, which comes from snow melt runoff of our beautiful nearby mountains, until we stayed at a hotel recently and I took a shower in it—I was surprised how quickly the soap and shampooI rinsed out, how my hand skipped and made squeaking sounds as I ran it down my arm! And afterwards I was so impressed with the softness and full body of my hair. I was determined to finally do something with our water back home. I was skeptical about this unit at first, as it seemed too good to be true due to being reasonably priced and quick & easy to install. But I really did not want to deal w/the installation of a bulky softener and commuted to purchasing/disposing several pounds of salt. I was eventually convinced after reading the reviews, figuring it was worth a shot. It arrived on schedule and took just 20 minutes to install onto our pvc pipes where our spring water enters our house and enters our main debris/sediment filter. Then I plugged it in, checked the lights on the box, and crossed my fingers. Per the instructions, I had already descaled our bathroom fixtures (faucets and toilets), so I could tell if/when it was working. I also let the kitchen sink and one of our showers run a bit to move the water through the system. I’d say I could feel a difference by the next day or two, when I began to feel that familiar squeaky clean sensation on some dishes I was washing. I am not noticing as much squeakiness in the shower, yet, but it is further down the house from the inlet and may have more pipe to clean out first. I’ll check back later to let you all know how it progresses, but so far I am pleased to see it is improving the water quality.

Just installed. will give updates NEW UPDATE
OK, As an engineer I am skeptical about this hocos pocus like device but I am willing to give it a try because of all the positive "anecdotal" info here. Why skeptical? Because this is not changing the chemical natural of the water. It maybe is manipulating ions but the calcium is still there. (that is what makes hard water hard) The reason why I am testing this is I don't want that big water softener in my garage. I have lived in 6 homes in 6 states and had everything from perfect town water to deep well water that was loaded with all kinds of stuff and everything in between. I have had the big water softeners and whole house filters, pumps and uv systems. It is a nightmare. My current situation is a I just bought a brand new home and it has city water. It has a water-softener loop in the garage for a hook up but none is there yet. I don't want one unless I really need it so I will try this first and return it if it does not fix the problem. Now the water is hard here. My wife and I noticed it on our first shower. She reported to me " something is wrong, the soap is broken and my hair feels like straw". Yep I said we have hard water. I tested it with a strip test from Home Depot and it reads about 450 . That is HARD WATER. All the other tests were pretty normal but I could smell a very slight little chlorine. but it tested within normal range. After two days of eddy install : It may be my mind but we both noticed our hair is feeling a little better. (not normal yet but a little better) I still think the soap should lather more but we think there is a slight improvement. Now the water heater holds 50 gals so there has to be a lot of the "pre eddy" water in there. so lets give it a full couple weeks and I will start retesting the water. For now I give it 3 stars but I want to see the actual measured hardness come down. I don't see how it can but I am trying to keep an open mind. If the effects of hard water disappear but the measurement still is high I will keep the eddy. If I see no real improvement in hardness or hair/soap/skin/clothes/scale etc... I will return it and buy a water softener and filter system.(ugh) So I will report back in a week or so... until then. It has been several weeks or so since I put this in and I wanted to update. I moved my rating to 4 stars. This definitely has some desired effects. The water still tests as hard but my hair feels much more normal now. Not so dry and stiff. Current hardness is about 250 or so but that is based on reading a color chart that is hard to distinguish between the colors with any degree of accuracy. That said my wife has told me I fixed the problem. I don’t see much scale buildup either. I will continue to monitor. For now though I think I will hold off on getting a big water softener system as this appears to have some merit. 3/18/2025: been using this now since 2018. It works well but it is not perfect. I love it because the cost and size. I have not had excessive build up but I do get some. I think it is worth the money IF you don't need perfect water. If you do, then get the full blown system but this has some merit. For me , My wife likes the water with this and that makes it good enough for me.

I think it works, but our water may be too hard
I like the idea of this unit. Less harmful to people/environment etc... The unit seems decently produced, well packed, decent instructions, and install isn't horrible. For the $, I feel it's a very fair deal. If you have typical hard water I think you would be very happy with this unit. If your water is super hard like ours apparently, then this may not work or work as well as needed? What may be our downfall is the hardness of our water here in the rural Midwest USA. Our water tested at between 400-600ppm whatever that means. We've had the unit installed for months now. I suppose it could be our pipes were very scaled up and this is just getting the scale off. I know although the house we bought had a water softener, the previous people didn't use it. But my gut tells me, this unit just can't take care of how hard our water is. I think it does work, but I'm not sure what to do as our dishwasher is almost unusable due to the hardness of water and now scaling of our dishes. The showers are getting scaled up too. I have an email to the company asking if a 2nd unit would help. I suspect the hot water heater(75gallon) may be allowing the water to sit and re polarize or whatever they talk about. BTW, for those that don't know, the unit works by changing the polarity or charge on the calcium ions from positive to negative or vice versa, so evidently the ions can't "stick" like they otherwise would to what we don't want, ie dishes, shower heads etc... My theory is that the hot water tank is letting some of those ions to go back to their normal state. IN the instructions it's stated there is a certain timeframe the water stays "good/polarized" before reverting so that is disclosed and I wasn't trying to state they are covering that up fyi. Anyway, for us, one unit doesn't cut it. I think the technology is valid, and I want it to work for us. I'd buy a 2nd unit if that is the case I feel so strongly, but if a 2nd unit won't work, then I'm back to either a water softener which I'm very opposed to, or a stronger unit or a very expensive saltless whole home water system.

Works as advertised
When I first heard about this descaler solution, I was a bit skeptical. The water to my home has high mineral content so for some time I've been looking for a descaling solution. I've had salt based water softeners in the past but didn't like them. They're expensive, need constant maintenance and just replace natural minerals with unhealthy salt. I've also looked at critic acid based water descalers, but was put off by both the high cost and because they add acid to the water. I researched electronic water descalers and they seemed like the ideal solution for my home: easy to install, inexpensive and they don't add chemicals to the water. The Eddy product advertised a six month trail with no-questions-asked return and refund, so with minimum risk to me, I thought I'd give it a try. I was curious as to what sort of signal the Eddy descaler was putting across the coils surrounding the water pipe, so I hooked up an oscilloscope across the coils to produce the attached image. I also wanted this as a baseline to see if the signal strength decreased over the age of the product. The signal appears to be a series of pulses. Presumably these pulses break the tendency of individual water molecules to "clump" together and free them to attach to the minerals in the water, thus keeping the minerals from forming scale deposits on surfaces. To test this, I partially descaled the black plastic spoon shown in the associated photo. I chose this spoon because its color and texture easily shows scaling. I used white vinegar to descale my pots and utensils when I first installed the Eddy descaler. The photo shows the results of four months of descaler use. The descaler doesn't seem to reduce existing scale, but was very good at keeping new scale from forming. At the same time I noticed scale was no longer forming on the walls and floors of my shower. In the past I needed to descale my shower walls and fixtures every other month. After four months with the Eddy descaler, there is no noticeable scale buildup in my shower. The Eddy descaler is the descaling solution I've always wanted. I will be keeping it. Thanks, Eddy, for a great product! Incidentally, I described the Eddy descaler to a salesperson of traditional water softeners who approached me. He seemed somewhat disheartened with my description and satisfaction with the Eddy descaler. But, technology progresses, and new technologies tend to disrupt incumbent markets.

This is a 5 star product, but nobody reads the 5 star reviews. Really - 5 STARS
This descaler is a 5 star product but nobody reads the 5 star reviews. I wanted to get this review read. I live in an area with very hard water, 15 gag. I have a coffee shop with 2 espresso machines. I have a sophisticated water treatment and softening system but the steam boilers stil get scale build up in the boiler and on the element (stainless steel). Every 2 years the boilers need to be de-scaled. This is a time consuming and messy process. The descaling of the boiler takes about a day. Once it is removed from the espresso machine I have to set it up to pump descaling chemical through it for 24 hours to get it clean. I have read about electronic descslers and admit I was sceptical. It has been 2 years since I installed the Eddy. I you read the product description it says that it prevents the minerals from bonding and building up. The Eddy did not eliminate the scale. I had to service the espressso machines including the boiler. When the boiler was removed and emptied there was calcium in the boiler but like small grains of sand. I rinsed the boiler of the sand and upon inspection was surprised. The interior of the boiler was spotless, cleaner then when it was descaled last time. No scale at all. So rather than being a 24 hour ordeal with 2 service trips I was able to reinstall the boiler and get the machine back in service right away. I would recommend this descaler as doing exactly what it promises. Excellent product for the price, easy installation. 5 Stars

Works as described.
We hate Softwater, I was worried about our water here and shower valves and heads and stuff. All of our plumbing in our house was recently replaced otherwise lead pipes would have been an issue. As I can tell right now things are cleaning themselves, sinks are working better (valves were sticking), shower heads are unclogging themselves and it's doing exactly as people have said. I hate the taste of softened water and I like to drink out of any sink. The stains are still showing up but very very reduced and very easy to wipe off. For us just a soft cloth basically. Since all of our plumbing is new and the water heater is two years old, I wanted to get the longest life out of everything that I could and that's why we did this. Not perfect but I am very impressed with the product! UPDATE: I am trying something really really cool. I bought a second Eddie and I wired it to the water input to my water heater. So the cold water that goes in is being charged as it flows through the water heater I’m trying to shake up and keep the water heater clean I actually have drained it a couple of times seasonally. To get any residue out. I am noticing a difference immediately, the water that comes from the hot water heater definitely feels like it’s softened as you use it and the way it runs over your hands also in the shower I’ve noticed a difference in the water feel for the hot water. We will see how it goes I do have two in the house and I’ve been using one for several years already and I do notice a difference and an improvement. In my valves and longevity of the plumbing system in my house. Shower glass door has no water spots “we use a squeegee” faucet edge to counter tops have little build up. It definitely reduces heavy clean up.

Works! Have had a long time
So I purchased one of these about 8 years ago because we had no room to install a water softener. I figured it was probably BS, but worth a shot. I am now moving to a different area of the same municipality, and the faucets are ALL a complete nightmare (think stalactites in a cave). While I knew that this was working, this gives me a far greater appreciation of just how amazing this easy & space-effective fix is! After I installed this instead of having hard & crusty build-up, it makes the lime/calcium powdery when left behind. So it doesn't eliminate hard water issues completely, but it does make it much easier to manage and you're not as likely to sustain damage to plumbing fixtures and appliances. Also, I didn't have too much of an issue with the wash machine or dishwasher after it was installed. Sometimes I still add something to the wash for hard water, but I typically use natural/neutral detergents and have not had an issue with things coming clean. So overall, I'd say this was a totally worthwhile investment, and I'm thinking about it for the new place (even though it is a rental - for the cost it is not worth the extra hours and expense of cleaning up after hard water build-up). I honestly wasn't 100% certain where I purchased it, but I tried looking it up in my orders, and lo and behold, it was sitting there waiting for me. If you're out of luck on space, but need something, pull the trigger. This is a nifty gadget that does what it says and has decent longevity.
