A nice gift
Bought is as a gift for the family that has everything already. They liked it. It gives kids something to do and follow up with. It's an experience and a fun yet simple responsibility with delayed gratification. After about 6 months the life cycles seem to just dissipate on their own but during that time I think I counted 4 generations

Do not order.
I don’t know what’s going on. I’ve had 3-4 of these, only 1 hatched eggs. The first one hatched and they were thriving. But my little accidentally dropped them so I ordered more. Every single one since DID NOT HATCH. Now I have to keep hiding them because my little cries because she doesn’t see any baby sea monkeys.

Funny "white elephant" gift
My family does a "white elephant" gift exchange every year. I was out of ideas and this ended up being a good item to get by.The 90s "kids" loved it! Their kids didn't know what the heck it was...

Easy instructions but would add a couple of my own that go against the product directions
I had a fun idea with my niece to get us both sea monkey kits, so that we could grow these and study them and talk about them together. It was her first experience with sea monkeys (or brine shrimp).I recall having sea monkeys for long periods of time growing up and was actually really excited because I remember being fascinated by them and really surprised by how big they got. This one was for me. I ordered a nicer one for my niece.Everything worked out much better than I expected at the beginning (at the beginning is the key phrase here). Wait for what happens. This did not come in a box. It was actually just the little tank with its lid zip-tied down and the instructions and packages inside. I was somewhat disappointed in that.I followed the instructions by first preparing the water and adding packet one. No issues. At the allotted time, and I think I waited an extra day just to be on the safe side, I added only a very tiny amount of package 2 containing the eggs due to a warning from one of my family members who remembered doing this as a kid and that one full package of eggs produced far too many sea monkeys and so they died. I’m thankful that I listened, because even just a tiny portion of the eggs in the packet produced a LOT of sea monkeys. I can’t even imagine what it would’ve been like if I dumped the whole package into that small tank….After this, you have to wait 5 to 7 days for feeding. I would probably recommend five days and I would not recommend using the actual spoon. The spoon doesn’t even have a little scoop in it so it’s kind of confusing on how much to use, but I think that you should basically use about as much to fit on the end of a toothpick at the beginning. My problem was that I miscalculated and put a little bit too much of the food in, which created a massive algae bloom and killed off my entire tank. This is not a product problem, it’s a user issue. I added too much food….I blame myself and that has nothing to do with the rating. I was sad.I have since ordered another package with the three pack set of the water preparation, eggs, and food, and I’m hoping to start over again with the same tank. You live and you learn.!

Be patient…they are resilient!
The media could not be loaded. I bought this one year ago for my son, but this soon became mine!We used distilled water and prepped it with packet 1. The following day I emptied in the eggs, packet 2 into the little tank. Several days later we saw swimming specks. And that’s when we began to feed them on a weekly schedule. They grew quickly over the next couple weeks. We kept them near a window but never in direct sunlight, we never used a bubble wand or a little heater or light. Also algae never grew for some reason.Majority of the little guys only lasted a month or two, we didn’t remove their bodies. Two of them outlived the others to about 4 or 5 months, it was cool watching them swimming around, sometimes attached to each other or what seem like chasing each other. It was a cold winter and I had believed that had an impact on their lifespan, HOWEVER, after the last two died, I placed the tank (still containing the dirty water and all the little decomposed dead bodies) in my kitchen window while I debated either buying more eggs or a whole new kit with new tank. Well, several weeks later I noticed algae growing and…new…babies!Something to note is that the weather was still as cold as before, but the difference in my case was placing it in different window which had direct sunlight. I think that is what ultimately created the perfect environment for any remaining eggs to hatch and the algae to grow like a lawn.Take a look at the video, there are different sizes swimming around, I feel like they are really flourishing here. I leave the tank in the same new window which gets about 3-4 hours of direct sunlight daily and still feed them on a once a week schedule. It’s been about 3 months and they seem happy!

May not be for everyone
My daughter wanted me to buy these for her so I did it was pretty neat watching the little shrimp grow but sadly only one lived for a little bit maybe a month or so!!! So if you don’t mind spending your money and time with these little shrimps then you should get it but if not then I would suggest not to buy it!!

DOES NOT WORK
I was so excited to get and see my sea monkeys grow. As a biologist, I thought oh I have this down how hard can it be. I followed all the instructions step by step. Waited two weeks and NOTHINGGG. None of the sea monkeys ever hatched and I am so disappointed. I cant return it as I threw out the original packaging. Now I am here with a sad tank of algae and water.
