Some backward ideas
Great story, well written. The only thing I didn't like were scathing remarks women thought or said about other women's looks. I know it was written in 2008 and back then was regarded ok. But it hurts to see again how another woman can promote the idea that your looks and being thin is your ticket to success with men and life in general. Well, it's not.

All By Myself
I've recently become obsessed with Jill Mansell's back catalog. Basically, 2010 has unofficially become the year I read a ton of Jill Mansell and as of yet I haven't tired of them! They continue to entertain me. When I am stressed with work, studying, and life in general, I open one of these babies up and know that I will be entertained and there is something incredibly comforting in those types of novels.'Thinking of You', at its core, is a mother-daughter story. Ginny Holland is a single mother, although she remains close to her humorous ex-husband. It is time for her daughter Jem to head off to University and she is concerned about empty nest syndrome but knows that it is also time to let her daughter spread her wings. These two have to learn how to live without the other. It is alternately funny and bittersweet because they both love each other so much but it is time for both of them to move on from the bond of living with each other. Any mother or daughter would appreciate this story. In true Mansell fashion, both Jem and Ginny were incredibly relate-able and you wanted to root for them. Also the cast of supporting characters was wonderful. They always make the book come to life in a way just a couple of main characters otherwise would not. And the book would not be complete with out some romance and plot twists to keep you guessing until the end. This one even had an unexpected one that I didn't really see coming!Highly recommend for those stressful weeks or a great vacation read!

how does she do it? she makes you love her characters and they seem so familiar......
the characters in jill mansell's books seem so familiar because she's such a wonderful character writer; her characters have the ring of truth about them, and so it seems you may have known them from somewhere. or you love to hate them, or are amused by them. this is her strongest point, she always has such winning men and women in her books....and the geeky and mean ones, too. i just loved this book! i have lost count of how many of jill mansell's books i have read, but it's over ten, pretty sure. yes, they are formula books, and no, i don't care. i don't care because they are little slices of life, so breezy and fun to read- a very nice distraction from this scary world. i read them in between more serious books, as sort of a "cleanser". i love that her books are always so enjoyable, always a page turner, always about families, always hovering around an "R" or less rating, never much detail of bedroom scenes, so nice for a change.if you accept that these are formula books that will charm you senseless, and perhaps inject some much needed cheer into your life, well, read this- and all her other books.highly recommended!

Laugh out loud humor about love and second chances
A charming and delightful story. Thinking of You is a multigenerational, community-based story centered around Ginny, an empty-nester, and her daughter, Jem, a freshman in college, and how they adjust to the changes in their lives. An assorted cast of quirky minor characters add to the humor from the playboy ex-husband, Gavin, to the sexy strumpet best friend, Carla, to the neurotic new roommate, Laurel.Ginny has several false starts in finding a new relationship, a new job, and a life without her daughter. Meanwhile both mother and daughter are duped, learn lessons, and come out triumphant at the end. There is a series of love affairs that are on and off again, but Ginny finally finds her heart in the most unlikely place. This book is laced with laugh out loud humor as well as a few heart tugging disappointments. The funniest scene was when Ginny is caught in her boss's bedroom with twenty condoms stuck up her bra. Not going to tell more, except you have to read it to get it. :)

A Second Chance at Love
I did enjoy this book. It interesting to see that as women we often put all our love into getting our children prepared to do life but then we somehow stop doing life. Ginny, divorced mum of one, finds that when her daughter leaves for university she has nothing to sustain her. What happens is a comical but sweet discovery of how life can bring more happiness and love when you take on new challenges and wrap them up in your insecurities and strengths. All the women in this book experience the highs and lows of love and friendship discovering that the ties that hold us can withstand all that comes along.

What do you do when your kids have all left home.
Ginny is thirty eight, divorced for nine years and Jem her only child is boarding the train to go off to college. What will she do with herself. Her whole life has been about her daughter and now it is time to let her grow up and go out into the real world and time for her to make a new start to. This story is a very realistic look at what happens to both mother and daughter.Relationships that fail, people who deceive, forgiveness and sometimes true love and friends. Good read

Another great book by Jill Mansell
Thinking of you is a great book. As usual there is a roller coaster of emotions going on in this story and the beginning is quite sad until the heroine learns to live her life as she wanted and not as a mother or a wife. It's a fun and hilarious journey on a woman's trial of self discovery. As usual the comedic timing is superb, the characters are well formed and the book is extremely well written. Mansell's characters make you fall in love with them from page 1. She is the master at drawing the reader in to the world that she creates and wrenching each emotion from them as they read.Well done.

Light and Frothy chick lit
Jill Mansell just does it for me. I like her brand of stream-of-consciousness Brit chick lit where the side stories and supporting characters are just as fun and interesting as the main characters and in the end everyone ends up in a satisfying romance or (in the case of a rogue/villain) having gotten their just deserts. There are also some fab laugh out loud moments. If you want a fluffy, light and sometimes a little silly but always uplifting romance then this book will work for you.

Thoroughly enjoyed this
This is the first Jill Mansell book I have read and I really enjoyed it. The main character is Ginny, a divorcee who is still friendly with her ex and suffering empty nest syndrome after her only daughter goes to university. Although the story follows Ginny and how she tries to make a new life for herself, it also dips into the lives of Jem- her daughter, Carla- her best friend, Laurel-her lodger and Finn- her boss.Ginny has a new romance with Perry- her lodger's brother, a new job with Finn- the man who accused her of shoplifting and many worries about Jem's new life in Bristol.Jill Mansell fleshes out her characters really well and I was very interested in how things would turn out for all of them. Ginny in particular was warm and well-written. I became quite invested in her story even though I have very little in common with her.The plot was engrossing because there was so much going on. It's not one of those very light chick lit books with little plot except how to get the 2 main characters together. This had a lot more to offer because it was funny and some of the plot was surprising. The ending is very satisfying although I almost wanted another chapter because I was sorry to see the back of Ginny.I will definitely be picking up another Jill Mansell book.

One of Jill's Best
I've read just about every Jill Mansell book out there. I've enjoyed them all, but Thinking of You turned out to be one of my all-time favorites. Perhaps it's because the main character is a wee bit older (not ancient, mind you, but not 21!) She's likeable, but not perfect. Ditto for the men in the story. Although it doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out who "the" man is, Jill once again provides enough interesting hiccups along the way to keep you turning the pages. Jill's strength has always been to tie together several stories in an entertaining and coherent way (not that easy) and this book is no exception. I highly recommend adding this to your reading list!
