Bell Automotive 22-1-29001-8 Digital Compass and Mirror Mount, One Size, Multicolor

Although easy enough to install, the display is difficult to read and impossible to read at night because the illumination is so dim. I ordered a replacement, thinking I got a bad unit, but the replacement didn't work at all, even after swapping batteries with the original unit. I tested the batteries in both units, and both batteries showed less than 50% charge straight out of the package. I even bought a brand new battery to try in both units. The one unit that does work was still too dim at night to read, and the daytime display was difficult to read at a glance. The replacement compass never worked at all, even with a new battery. Junk. Don't waste your money.

The good - it has some built in intellegence that is really slick for setting up the compass. Drive in a circle and your in business. The bad - it's too small and too dim to read. The screen size would work IF there was enough contrast to clearly see the directions. Even with the built in light mode for night it's too difficult to read.

The idea is good but I couldn't get it to calibrate properly. It was fine North/South but East/west were reversed. The LCD display is too dim for the bright Florida sun. I returned it.

It was very difficult to install. I had difficulty calibrating it. Since i had one years ago i persisted in getting it to work. It is hard to see in the dark.i i have to turn on the light above the mirror to see it.

For anyone who doesn't understand compasses, it will be very confusing. An actual compass had a red needle which points behind you - telling you the direction from which you came; the white needle tells you the direction toward which you are going. This device tells ONLY the direction from which you came. The factory-installed compasses show the direction in which you are travelling. This does not. You see north when you are travelling south. It is very hard to see at night; the light does not stay on. It is better that nothing. Next car I lease or buy will have a built-in. This will serve the purpose for me because I understand how it works, but . . .

Even though this compass works on magnetic readings, it tracks the GPS compass readings exactly. For older drivers, it will be hard to read the indicators and the lighted function is way too dim. However the headings appear to be right on.

So i am one to typically ignore negative comments. So went ahead purchased and installed. Install was very ez. But I could read the letters. Way too dim. So i bought a new battery figuring that was the issue. But same! Plis even after calibration, it was not giving correct heading. I have bought several items from Bell Mfg before and been happy. This is a complete waste of money. It’s junk! Don't buy!

First one - wouldn't calibrate. Asked for replacement. Second one, the light doesn't come on. Very disappointed.

2 stars do not do justice to this, It works as stated, does the job.

Came with a dead battery, display is too small, can't see it easily and not at all at night. Worst of all it doesn't work! Sending it back asap. GARBAGE!!!
