Wagner's 57075 Safflower Seed Wild Bird Food, 5 Pound (Pack of 1)

Black Birds used to gorge themselves on the Sunflower seeds I put out for Cardinals, Finches and other small birds. Then they started inviting their buds over. While they made pigs of themselves, they'd post Sentries around so no other birds could approach. After researching what to do about the problem, I found that Black Birds don't like Safflower seed. It's true! I kept putting Safflower seeds out and soon the Black Birds quit visiting the feeder. I ran out of Safflower and put the leftover Sunflower seeds out for a few days. In no time the Black Birds were back. So this is my 2nd order of Wagner's Safflower. I filled the feeder late tonight. Tomorrow, the Black Birds will get rude awakening.

I needed something that neither the squirrels nor the European Starlings would eat and this seed works! Unfortunately the shells make a mess under the feeder BUT I got a seed catcher for that. I just started with this seed the other day and so far have seen house finches (they LOVE IT!), cardinals, mourning doves (they clean up the ground) and chickadees. As a side note - for those who want to get rid of house sparrows - hang some shoelaces (I weight mine with hex nuts) around your feeder. Don't know why, but it WORKS! So with the safflower and shoelace combination, I've successfully removed squirrels, starlings, and and house sparrows from my feeder.

I used this product for treats for my green check conure and he loves them! For my use this bag is worth the price and contains a good amount of seeds in the bag. The bag of seeds can probably last me a few years so I would say the portion is good for your money good. My conure has an easy time breaking the seeds and he digests them well.

Keeps the grackles away……but almost everyone else too. Cardinals and house finches love it and no one else. Will continue using it in between other seeds when the grackles come back.

I have never had Cardinals at my feeder. Since putting out the safflower seeds I have Cardinals all day long.!
