Syberia 1 & 2 (Nintendo Switch)

Man, this takes me back to my childhood. Fantastic set of games, and it arrived quickly! :)

This is a review for the games themselves rather than this specific edition.I discovered "Syberia" in the early 2000s when it was still only available on PC. I love point and click adventures but "Syberia" was something special. It was created by graphic novelist B. Sokal who had previosuly given us "Amerzone" and at least one other adventure game which are worth playing if you can find them. This game has shades of "Myst" or "Rhem" if you know those titles but adds a complelling narrative and a suite of memorable characters, both friends and enemies, our heroine meets along the way. It was one of the first games I encountered which made use of a cellphone as an interface tool.In the first game, we play as Kate Walker, a lawyer from New York who is traveling to the small alpine village of Valadelein to close a deal involving a toy factory. She quickly leans that the woman who owned the factory has died and she must find her estranged brother to sign the final paperwork. Thus she begins a puzzle-filled odyssey to find the illusive Hans Voralberg. To avoid spoilers, I will only say that though there is a satisfying ending, there is a bit of a cliffhanger at the end.In the second game, Kate continues her journey, this time to find the semi-mythical island of Syberia which is somewhere in the Arctic Ocean. Her steps are dogged by a pair of gangsters and her boss is upset that she's not coming back to New York any time soon. Though there is again a satisfying end to the game, it leaves us with a cliff-hanger - Kate is stranded far from civilization with no safe way back.Rest assured that the story has been continued but I have reviewed "Syberia 3" in its own review. All I will say here is that the game, at least in the PS4 version I purchased, suffers from terrible bugs and I have not been able to finish the game. However, what I have played is a wonderful continuation and it's a shame the game is bugged.Note that there is a fourth game in the series as well.The games contained in this particular product are a joy to play but have many challenging puzzles and no combat. Though some choices can lead to Kate's death or imprisonment, these are few and far between compared with other modern games. There is a lot of back and forth with no "fast travel" feature which some might find annoying, but for the un-rushed this makes the solutions all the more satisfying. One of the more fascinating aspects of the game are the Voralberg automatons which are sophisticated clockwork creations and range from an automated desk-bell in a hotel to a clockwork train to a sophisticated engineer who becomes Kate's constant companion on her journey.I can't recommend these two games enough.

I've played this game before on a computer, so I got it for my Switch lite to learn controls. It doesn't go where it should let me go and has randomly shut off mid play several times.

I missed the Syberia series back in the original Xbox era. I’m not sure why but I’d always been mildly curious about them, even more so once the 3rd game finally released. Having both on the go has been a great way to experience what I missed. They aren’t the best advertise games ever made but I enjoy the trilogy quite a bit nonetheless.

My record description this game is on a very interesting with exploring and venturing and all that. So I was kind of expecting a Tomb Raider type game. Well I was in for a huge disappointment at this game is more like that computer game Myst from the 90s. So unless you like really long and boring games that's mainly based on dialogue/story telling, then this is not for you.

I've played this game since I was a teen. It has rained since lol, but awesome I was able to purchase this, such nostalgia.Definitely recommend this game!

Questo gioco è veramente bello...certo la grafica è un po datata ma nell'insieme tutto ok...ci giocavo con la play anni fa e rivivere il gioco con la nintendo mi è piaciuto tantissimo... il gioco è in lingua italiana e nessun problema.. solo tanti bei ricordi grazie

Ce jeu est un classique qui vaut son pesant d'or pour les amateurs du point and click. Le scénario est genial. Si vous êtes stressés, si vous avez envie d'évasion: foncez!
