Great comedy! Good for some laughs.

At first glance years ago I refused to watch. I thought it was something akin to another show I avoided called boo-boo... You know it. A colleague of mine was a fan of the show and insisted that I give it a try. I watched the first three episodes of 'Hope' and was happily amused. Further into the plot, the back-stories started popping up... adding a nice complexity that would have otherwise ended up in mindless repetition. Eventually the cast melded into something very slick and knee jerk stupid funny. YOU MUST START from the beginning for things to make sense. But a random episode is still entertaining for its main plot with thread references not understood. Expect people to break out into song with a Ukulele or other random instruments, sometimes going into a full musical routine with choreography and everything. One of the neat things about this very unique way of story telling is that every episode deals with a dilemma of some sort and nearly always has a happy ending. This is a great family show to watch that is conservative on family and moral issues yet liberal on everything else. Perfect balance for everyone. An absolute joy to watch all four seasons so far. Watch the pilot!

Let's take hackneyed writing and jejune plot-lines commonly despised by audiences of the world and turn it into something special. That is the core theme of the Chances' mis-adventures; they embrace low social standing, accept what to others would be taken as offal, and spin it until it shines. It is the classic concept; the weaving of straw, or the alchemical transformation of lead, into gold.An art form is essentially this:It takes only itself seriously. It is always true to itself, even if it is not its own origin. It is derived from the heart and soul of the artist, not from the pander-craving whims of the critic. It is irrelevant to the human condition, and yet holds it as sacrosanct, a captured state of perception, conception, space, time, and relativity to everything surrounding it.Raising Hope, in my unqualified opinion, is a work of art, ongoing for us to enjoy. To those who continue to make it, thank you!I am glad this show is still going. As long as it stays true to concept and characters, I will buy every episode that comes out.

I watched this show the first season but then I stopped. I recently caught up on all the seasons via Netflix and Amazon. If you are looking for less "romantic comedy" and more yuck-yucks, then you would enjoy this show. I personally, like romantic comedy which is why my favorite scenes are between Burt and Virginia who are just the most quirky yet "in love" couple on the show. It is so sweet that they've been together since they were teenagers but never seem to be bored with each other. Kind of inspirational and sort of gives credence to the term "ignorance is bliss".

This is such an underrated comedy. I love it so much!

Excellent show, I love it. But the dvd has no special features.

Sound quality was very poor. My grandson loves this show but did not want to watch this tape due to poor sound. Was disappointed with this purchase
