AT&T's Syn248 is designed with SMB in mind. With industry-leading features built on the capabilities of traditional telephone systems, Syn248 is the natural successor to small PBXs and traditional key systems.

Voip phone review
This is an on premise Voip system. It interfaces the local phone company lines to the phone sets just like a smallkey system or pbx. The system is easy to install if you have some experience. The phone sets are nice. Howeverwhen we turned up our system we had one set that was defective. We called the selling company got an RMA then wehad to pay for shipping of the item and had to wait until they received it before they sent the replacement. Did not care for that too much. The system has some great features however it has some that are not. The incoming lines ring at all sets and you cannot change it. The voice attendant is a great option with the ability to forward calls even off site. We used the Syn248 with a Cisco QOS gigabit switch. Placed behind a UPS that will give us approximately 90 minutes backup. The phone sets are powered over the ethernet with a poe rack mount power supply. All cabling is cat 6 to a rack mount using patch cables to connect POE,Cisco Switch, telephone sets, internet. Very happy with the setup and system. This setup also works our local computer network. The Cisco Switch interfaced everything. Seriously consider POE for the phone sets as this will keep you from having to power each set independently, and all the sets are interfaced to the uninterrupted power supply which gives us phones for at least 90 minutes during power outage and the phones are protected from spikes surges etc. Great price through Amazon. Initial delivery was quick and packaging was done properly. This system has the ability to grow and has been a definite upgrade.

Major design flaw
So I have a small office with 12 people in it, I worked as a HP engineer for many years and know my way around hardware, wiring and phone systems. My needs where rather simple, I wanted to install a phone system into our office over our preexisting cat5e network. The Syn248 looked like the perfect solutionWhat was good:1. simple to install. took me less then an hour to install and wire the system.2. rack mountable, always a plus but was designed to be mounted on a wall or sit on a desk too.3. easy to get into the web based configuration4. phones are plug and playThe bad:1. no way to have a call ring to multiple lines at once, that is to say if you want to offer a sales call to all the sales staff at the same time, find a different box. To be fair they don't claim they do it in the product description but a call to the sales line and they will say it does. The Inexcusable:But what really made me return it was that there is NO WAY POSSIBLE to have the auto attendant pick up the phone before the first ring. Which would not be a big deal except that EVERY phone in the office will ring at least once EVERY time call comes into the system. So the receptionists phone will ring once when a sales call comes in, the bosses phone will ring every time sally's daycare calls to give an update about her child etc.... I called support thinking that there must be some way to have the auto attendant pick up as soon as a call is connected or direct the first ring to a phone in my server closet as to keep everyone in the office sane... There answer: It was designed not to do that...Sorry AT&Tbut this system is worthless

Dead desk set!
I'm a bit upset that one of the five included desk sets was DOA. Add to that the fact that I had this order shipped out to Bermuda which means no returns! The bad unit was obviously a return from a previous sale as the packaging was different than the other four units.Other than that the system is easy to install and functions well on four out of five extensions, however I will try to avoid AT&T products in the future.UPDATE: After searching around on how to deal with my dud telephone I discovered that it seemed to be "married" to a previous system and so after doing a factory reset it finally managed to connect to my system.Still not happy receiving a used unit when I was buying brand new!

Works good, but limited functionality
I read an years-old negative review that said this system was junk because:1) You couldn't set the phone auto attendant to answer without first ringing all phones2) When a call gets routed by the auto attendant, it uses the intercom line, and you can't transfer it to another extension.I saw that AT&T posted that they fixed #1 in a firmware upgrade, so I assumed they fixed #2 and bought the system. It turns out that they didn't fix #2, so that still exists and makes this quite useless in some cases. So I will add two more negatives:1) There is no ability for the system to ring more than one extension from the auto attendant. So "dial 1 for tech support" goes to one guy and if he's not there, it goes to voicemail.2) There isn't a way to make it switch to nighttime mode on a schedule, like M-F 8-5 use daytime. So while it does work, was easy to install, I feel that these negatives make this useless for a "real" phone system. I regret buying it.

Not a hassle free installation
This phone system works well, but installation is not hassle free. This phone is a faux Voip system. It connects the old copper lines to the Gateway provided which then connects directly to your internet gateway. The problem I had is that this phone then requires an Ethernet wall outlet to be directly connected to each phone station to work and I had to run Ethernet cables throughout the ceiling of my office to get all of the phones connected. If you already have access in you office this phone system would be really easy to install, if you do not then I would recommend looking into a wireless phone system. Access to the phones configuration online is very user friendly with many options.

I absolutely love this product!
I absolutely love this product! The setup is fairly simple, but the instructions are lacking just a bit. For instance, saving the auto-attendant message works, but unless you use the operator extension to switch from Default Mode to Day or Night Mode, you will think that it is not working. Good news, though, calling AT & T support was great. They answered my questions quickly and accurately. I would definitely get this product again.
