Agatha Christie's Partners in Crime: The Tommy & Tuppence Mysteries

The discs work w/o a hitch
So far the discs are perfect--on the disc 2. Once I select "vivid" on the remote the picture is great. Francesca Annis' style of body movements is very much like Geraldine McEwan's (Mapp & Lucia) yet they don't have the same director. Both are LWT productions. The stories are good and "Tuppence's" wardrobe is gorgeous--similar to "Lucia's" gorgeous wardrobe (same 1920s styles). Tony and Tuppence are equally smart at solving the mysteries; each one reflects the other as they both arrive at a solution. The mysteries are good as far as I can say since I've never read Agatha Christie but love teleplay adaptations. The couple are as adorable as "Nick and Nora".

for Agatha Christie fans
Although they are not Miss Marple, these detectives are fun and you are transported back to the early 20th century. If you are an Agatha Christie fan, you will enjoy these stories and discover one doesn't have to live as long as Miss Marple to be clever and solve mysteries; what they lack in wisdom, they make up for in bravery.

Annis is sublime fun!
Francesca Annis is a superb Tuppence!! If you've read Christie's stories, you probably will agree with me about this. And, Annis is simply gorgeous. A stunningly elegant actress. These tales are all reproduced from the TV broadcast, so some of the quality may seem rough and possibly uneven. Don't worry - you will still enjoy watching these two fine actors and the entertaining supporting cast bring the tales to life. And, the fashions, too, will probably even for the guys who watch these DVDs be eye-catching.A great diversion for those days when you'd rather watch a story instead of reading one.

I love this acting duo and wish they had done more ...
I am a Fla. snowbird and ordered another for this home, I love this acting duo and wish they had done more of the Tommy & Tuppence mysteries, in fact, they still could, and I would love it. But, please do not order the new one with the other actors, the actors may be okay but the story line and time-lines are completely different. I could not even watch 15 minutes of the remakes. Whom ever is in charge of the new Christie mysteries is an awful muddled injustice to Christie and her mysteries. Stick with Suchet, Hickson, and these 2 for Christie's mysteries on screen.....

Delightful characters and stories but poor DVD quality
Though not nearly as well known as Dame Agatha's Miss Marple or Hercule Poirot, her characters Tommy and Tuppence have provided a lot of readers with hours of enjoyment in much the same way that Hollywood's version of the "The Thin Man" has over the years by pairing a charming couple with murder and mayhem.Tommy and Tuppence are English - of course - and they get involved in a series of investigations almost accidentally. The books are delightful and so are the actors who portray the couple. The crimes are original and the solutions don't come easily but require the pair to stretch their minds and, in some cases, their imaginations. The problem: This was an early effort by the BBC and it suffers from poor set design, sometimes just-not-quite-right lighting and poor reproduction on DVD. It's good but not up to par with the current "Poirot" and "Miss Marple" efforts and a long, long way from "Sherlock." I enjoyed it but wish it had better production values... perhaps it could be redone? I'd like that.

Partners in Crime: a classic that never fails to please
The "Partners in Crime" set of British videos never fails to please me, no matter how many times i have seen them over several decades. Francesca Annis, backed up by a wonderful wardrobe, highlights the series for me, but enchanting as well is the roaring 20s environment depicted, the absurdity of the newleyweds Tommy and Tuppence playing at being detectives, and the variety of situations in which they ply their trade. Kudos, of course, to Agatha Christie for having penned so many stories that make both good reading and great television.

Excellent Mysteries.
Taken from Agetha Christie novels. 3disks, 11 mysteries in total. Very light mysteries. James Warwicke and Francesca Annis make a great pair. Handsome and debonair and a beautiful Tuppence dressed in best of fashion. Highly recommended.

A rarely seen Agatha Christie classic Series
Adapted from the Tommy And Tuppence stories of the 20's, and 30's, Partners In Crime, first screened in 1983 by London Weekend Television with production filming taking place between June 1982, and March 1983 saw Francesca Annis, and James Warwick play Christie's detectives to wonderful effect. The series starts off with a flyer with, "The Secret Adversary", the last one to be filmed has a lot going for it, particulary Gavan O'Herilly, and one of the final appearances of Welsh actor Donald Houston, who sadly died in 1985. O'Herilly's, Julius Herscheimer is an episode highlight as he uses every action sequence to his advantage, and there are excellent performances from Honor Blackman, Peter Barkworth, George Baker, and Alec McCowen, as well as first-class directing by Tony Wharmby. Other great episodes are : "Affair of The Pink Pearl", "Unbreakable Alibi", "Clergymans's daughter", "The Crackler", and, "House Of Lurking Death".

Charming and good fun.
I had already seen Francesca Annis and James Warwick together in a film adaptation of Agatha Christie's "Why Didn't They Ask Evans?" and so was reasonably sure I would enjoy this set, "Partners in Crime". I was almost put off by the dire warnings about possible poor quality of the video and audio, and so was very pleased to find that both picture and sound quality is very good.Enjoyable, charming, and good fun.

An amazing series!!!
Although Amazon's review says that "at best it is only moderately entertaining", I found this series very entertaining, and veryclose to the original stories. It was funny, exiting and simply clever all at the same time! This set consists of 10 stories:The Affair of the Pink Pearl, The House of Lurking Death, Finessing the King, The Ambassador's Boots, The Man in the Mist,"The Unbreakable Alibi", "The Case of the Missing Lady", "The Crackler", "The Sunningdale Mystery" and "The Clergyman's Daughter."and 1 feature-length: The Secret Adversary. In these 3 DVDs you will find a thrilling mix of robberies, murders and even forgery with gorgeous outfits and beautiful locations. Whilst running "Blunts Brilliant Detectives" , Tommy and Tuppence Beresford use the methods of many famous detectives solving their cases.
