Philips AE2330/00 Bathroom Splashproof Clock Radio

I've been considering a bathroom clock radio for a few years now but never came across anything that seemed good enough. This one seemed to fit the bill so took the plunge. A bit of a boogie and singing in the shower helps me wake up during those dark, cold, early mornings.A "tinny" type sound was expected and it is quite tinny, but not as bad as I feared. It does go quite loud and is far louder than the power shower we have or the extractor fan.The timer feature allows the radio to be turned on for 15, 30, 45, 60 mins. I'd have liked 5 and 10 min lengths too as I tend to shower for 10 mins and I like to have my morning routines quite tightly timed military style to avoid being late for work.It takes 3 AA batteries and hopefully they last long as I only turn the radio on for about 15 mins per day. It's been 2 weeks so far.Likes:Easy to useLouder than expectedAllows you to store presetsTimer functionDislikes:Cannot see time whilst radio is on so I'm having to switch the radio off for a second to check the time.

A good purchase which takes up little room yet has a good volume (at least good enough for my small bathroom).The only snag I found was in setting up the pre-set stations for those which were not pre-set beforehand (and which were not the ones I wanted). The process seemed complicated and the instructions were far from clear. However, by re-reading the instructions and trial and error, I did manage to to set them, although not necessarily in the positions that, ideally, I would have wanted.I cannot comment on how 'hungry' it is on battery usage yet as it has only been installed for a couple of days. (It takes 3 AA batteries.)Altogether I am satisfied and, at this early stage of use, recommend it.

Having bought a cheap model as a replacement for my old shower radio when water finally got into the battery dept, i found i needed to replace that within weeks as it just wasn't up to the job. I decided I needed to spend a bit more to get the same quality as my previous one. This is a good quality item with clear radio reception. As previously mentioned in other reviews it's a shame the clock doesn't display when the radio is switched on - I used the clock on my previous one to keep an eye on the time when getting ready in the mornings. I've knocked a star off for this as otherwise it is an excellent item.

It really annoys me sometimes to see negative reviews from people who just expect too much from a product.This is now my third shower radio. The last one cost me £10 - it fell off the hook in the shower an broke - it was a bit tinny, it was fiddly to tune but it was cheap.So, this Philips radio may be a bit tinny - if I compare it to my NAD system / Monitor speakers downstairs, but for a shower radio it's good.It also has an ariel - little wire one - we need that in our house - and it picks up all the stations I want.Best feature of this radio for me is the presets and autotune - manual tuning on my old one was a real pain - and you had no accurate idea of wavelength.The handle is fiddly to detach until you get the idea of how it fits in - but that means I can secure it in the shower without the fear of it dropping.This is the best shower radio I've had.A few MINOR points though:1) It displays the time, but only when the radio is off - so when you are showering in front of the thing with the radio on you cannot tell the time. When you turn it off and get out of the shower the time is there for you. Not sure I get the logic.2) Time will tell how waterproof it is - there is no rubber seal over the battery compartment - just a standard plastic door. But using my common sense, I am not going to put this right in the line of the water - that's just silly.Overall - 99% happy !Buy one.

The good :-Looks great in the bathroom, does the job, one of the better products here on Amazon. Also has an accurate auto-search function, which is very welcome.The bad :-Tinny sound, and I am absolutely taking into account the fact that this is a cheap shower radio and not a Bang & Olufsen hifi. Even for what it is, the sound is poor.Summary :-Not a bad radio really and whilst Sony make a much better sounding shower radio, theirs is very expensive and don't last (not just my experience, but the experience of others here).

For some reason this radio is pretty difficult to get hold of. It does sell on eBay, but it's a bit more expensive than what you'll pay here on Amazon (at least at the time of purchasing mine) - but you'll have to wait a bit longer to acquire it this way. I seemed to wait for ages after placing my order, and at one point almost cancelled and paid the extra to get it sooner from eBay.However; this radio was WELL worth the wait, it's EXCELLENT quality - both the actual unit itself, and the sound! I was able to tune in and get a great reception of my favourite station `Classic FM'. which at times on other radios I have is not always a very strong signal, and in my bathroom the reception is good, which can also be a problem with some radios. I like the `nifty' and `chunky' knob on the top which serves both as a `dial' as well as a push button! There's a very clear and nice sized digital display which serves both as a clock as well as your tuner, and you can store your fav. station so there's no need to constantly retune every time you use it.As a collector of Shower Radios, this is among my favourites already and would recommend it to anyone, and to say to anyone ordering this item from Amazon and having to wait - to definitely do just that as you won't regret it!A very nice quality and gorgeous looking Shower Radio!Five stars from me!
