Hampton NauticalSolid Brass/Copper Boatswain (Bosun) Whistle with Rosewood Box, 5", Brass

It is a great value. The box alone is worth the $9 I paid but the whistle itself is quite handsome and works very well. I do recommend this without hesitation.

I am totally blown away by the quality and appearance of this whistle. I am playing Captain Von Trapp in The Sound of Music and want to have an authentic whistle. The whistle and the box look identical to the live version that Carrie Underwood played in.

The pipe certainly looks nice and for less than $7 dollars it will make a nice decorations, but it does not perform as a whistle.I am able to produce a weak tone at a fairly high breath pressure but it is weak and does not allow for alterations using the hands.Given that the two hemispheres do not align, the opening opposite the pipe (edge) are not even, and the finish (polish, cleanup, etc) is less than acoustically sufficient it is obvious why this product does not produce a sound.But it is pretty and I really do not wish to deal with returning this faulty product.

The box is nice, kinda clicks shut so as long as the ball clicking it together doesn't come loose, it shouldn't be flapping open. The emblem on the top is just a sticker and you can see the border which is like 1 cm larger than the anchor, not the best quality.I don't know how to play or tune the whistle but I can tell you that if you blow in it hard enough it makes a very loud noise.The plating on the metal is pretty obvious, on some of the corners where flat piece meets the tube there are some spots where the metal looks nickel.I got it as a gift because I liked the box but I had hoped it would be functional as a BOSUNS whistle, its functional as a whistle being that it does indeed make a loud noise when blown.If it wasn't so close to christmas I would buy a different, more expensive whistle.

The media could not be loaded. This looks nice in the picture, but it ends there! This is NOT FUNCTIONAL! It will make noise, but any boatswain will tell you it is not a proper whistle. My video shows a couple of the things that are wrong with it. Spend the few extra dollars and get a nice whistle, especially if the person you are getting it for knows anything about it!

Quality made whistle. The chain however was very cheap and broke almost immediately. Good for looks, but not so much for function.

Doesnt work at all, does not have even close to the shine shown in the pictures. What came out of my box was a few pieces of bent copper pipe hastily soldered together to resemble a bosuns pipe and then thrown on a copper chain. The only reason I gave this an extra start is because the box it came in was well crafted and looks nice.
