Love this coffee maker
I drink two large mugs of coffee in the morning. This coffee maker makes a little more than I need in one sitting. I am also enamored of the pour over method, particularly because I have a gooseneck electric kettle which gives me fine control over the pour. The pot is made of borosilicate glass which I think is the same as the trademark name Pyrex. The pot is made in Taiwan not mainland China which is a plus for me. The filter is a very fine mesh and allows for very little grounds to pass through even though I am using a very fine grind at the moment. A coarser grind is probably more appropriate.

YAMA FOR QUALITY, STYLE, AND FUNCTIONALITY!
Our Mr Coffee was starting to show wear and was dirty so we decided to clean it with white vinegar. The gunk that ended up in the pot wasn’t appetizing and made us wonder about what we were drinking with our coffee. So I told my girlfriend about the pour over method. She cobbled together a make shift set up with a mesh kitchen strainer and was delighted with the result! That motivated us to search for alternate coffee making methods. We decided to try the pour over method and looked at a few options including Chemex, Brim, Melitta, Yama, and a couple others.I was particularly attracted to the Yama 6 cup pour over for a few reasons:1) made of heat resistant borosilicate glass2) an integral glass handle rather than a silicone or cork insulator3) 6 cup capacity4) hand blown in Taiwan5) double layered stainless steel permanent mesh filter rather than paperAnd the price of the Yama was competitive with the other choices. I ordered it from Amazon and it arrived promptly in perfect condition. The glass pot was wrapped in brown paper inside a Yama cardboard box which was then packed inside another cardboard shipping box.We made our first pot of Coffee today using 6 tablespoons of a popular medium roast ground coffee, and about 32 ounces of fresh water. The coffee will absorb 2-3 ounces of water so I added extra. We heated the water to just boiling in an electric tea kettle, turned it off and let cool a couple minutes to get it down near 200 degrees. We preheated the filter and carafe with hot tap water so that they wouldn’t cool down the brewed coffee and to avoid any possible shock to the cold carafe. We poured a small amount of hot water into the grounds to let them “bloom” and allowed it to soak about 30 seconds. Then we gradually added the remaining hot water to the filter. The filter is large enough to hold most of the hot water and it percolates thru the grounds at a decent rate, we were never concerned about overflow.Once completed, we enjoyed the coffee for breakfast and found it to be smoother and fuller bodied than from the old Mr Coffee. I would honestly say the pour over method does produce a better tasting cup albeit with a bit more effort. The Yama carafe is stylish and simple, it seems to be very sturdy and reasonably thick glass. The glass handle is thick and comfortable to grip and does not get hot from brewing. The notch for pouring at the lip of the carafe seems about right to pour cleanly with a thin stream that doesn’t splash. The base of the carafe is flat and large enough to be very stable when filled with hot coffee. The cup markings on the carafe are large, white, and very easy to read even with my old eyes. The stainless filter is sturdily built with two layers: an outer solid layer with very fine holes, and an inner layer that seems like woven stainless fabric. This seems to allow an appropriate flow rate while not allowing any notable residue to reach the carafe. I don’t recall seeing any residual grounds in the carafe when I poured my final cup of coffee.Overall we are very pleased with the quality, style, and functionality of the Yama 6 cup pour over kit. It’s our first and only pour over so we can’t offer comparisons to other brands but we fully recommend it!

Love the glass pot but not the filter
Love the shape, size of this glass coffee pot. Works beautifully with re-usable organic cotton filters.Only reason I didn't give a 5-star rating is that the 'stainless' filter has what appears to be a piece ofplastic at the bottom which the hot coffee drains through. Also, although the ad says the filter isstainless, it may not be - nothing on/with the packing to indicate such and metal looks a bit off.I wanted non-toxic (including plastic and/or metal) materials. Decided to keep the glass pot but notuse the metal filter.

Too narrow of a top
I have used various pour over coffee makers, because frankly, my husband and I are clutzes. The Chemex ones, twice, because they are rather fragile, the Le Prem one (the best one, no longer available), and this one: the Yama. While probably as strong as the Le Prem, the mouth on this one is noticeably narrower. I didn’t think this would be a problem, but somehow it is. The narrowness causes the water to bubble up the sides of my filter, splashing and gurgling coffee out everywhere. I have tried different filters, wet, dry, chemex, non chemex, and it still bubbles and makes a mess! I should note that the carafe comes with a filter, but I prefer the paper for a cleaner coffee. Am in the process of finding another type. Btw, the mesh filter basically just drains out of the bottom where there is one layer of mesh and 7 larger holes. It does not drain out the sides which look more meshed.

Perfect size and love the handle.
I bought this mainly for the travel trailer and it's the perfect size for the two of us. Convenient to use with the handle. Fresh ground beans brewed with a pour over makes a great cup of coffee.

Exactly what I needed
I had switched to pour over coffee about a year ago but was looking for a slightly larger carafe and one that had a stainless steel filter. Oddly enough, it was not because I did not want to use paper filters as I intend to keep using them with the existing filter. The quality is very good and even with the additional paper filter the time to complete making coffee is not that long.

Great tool to make the best coffee! I love grinding my own coffee-love the smell-and the work to make the best cup of coffee! Use a filter-if you do decide not to use an extra filter for easy cleaning-I recommend u to clean it with white veniger every Sunday... Enjoy your coffee.
