Genie ALKT1-R Aladdin Connect Smartphone Garage Door Opener – Monitor, Open & Close Your Garage Door from Anywhere (Item is Brand New Will Ship in Brown Box, not in Gift Box)

The Genie Co is wonderful, however their literature, (at least for IOS (apple) users is pathetically inaccurate, and it may not be their fault but they need to find a way to update their info. 1) THE LITERATURE is backwards! #1 on the included literature is to wire the system up which is OPPOSITE of their videos! Look over the literature and set it aside, its about worthless. WATCH THEIR VIDEOS found on their site, then expect some of it to be outdated due to Apples upgrades of IOS which changes commands/page settings on the Iphone/Pad. 2) Even after watching the videos I could not connect, the woman who helped me is not a 10 but a 12. She bypassed all the app's commands and went right into my ISP's setting and I was connected in less than two minutes. 3) AFTER you watch the videos and if you're able to par the unit ON YOUR COUNTER, NOT INSTALLED on your ceiling or wall! (If you can't par it call tech support, they REALLY are excellent!) 3) AFTER the unit is pared THEN unplug all power and wire it up! They literature has you wire it up and then remove it to scan bar codes, just who is in charge of writing their terrible literature actually needs to install the unit to see how ridiculous their efforts are. Finally, VERY HAPPY with the unit, Literature gets a 1 star, videos get a 3 star, Customer Support gets a 10 star,

Pretty simple for the most part. Sync to your phone before you attempt to install it in your garage. Only issue I had was getting the door sensor to pair, simply says to pull tab and should be automatically. Doesn’t tell you if it doesn’t pair to do it manually by holding the blue button on the controller. I mainly bought it as a backup just in case we ever left the door open but now I wish it was compatible with Siri or Homekit. Some complain about it notifying you every time it opens/closes but I like the feature because we usually wait til it closes but if we drive off we get the notification that it’s closed.

very easy to set up although I did make a mistake in the final process in getting the DPS to connect with the Aladdin unit. Contacted customer support and in a few short minutes she was up and running. I highly recommend this unit as an add on to your Genie garage door operator if you want to have the ability to open and close you garage door with your smart phone from anywhere you have service.

There’s really only one major flaw but it makes the entire device painful and exposes the complete lack of commitment by Genie. In a stunningly poor design move, installing the Aladdin Connect means that every time your garage door opens and closes, you will get a text notifying you. If you push the door button on the wall and watch the door go up. Expect a text. The fact that the app hasn’t been updated in over 8 months is unfortunately the proof they don’t care about the product or their customers. This would be an easy fix if they had any pride and would unlock the highly useful app and device.

Works great with my 20 year old genie rolling-code opener. Simple to install. Simple to setup. Sure, when you click "open" or "close" it takes longer than a normal remote to work, but the signal has to go into space, through the interwebs, to your local network, and then to the unit. That it works at all is simply magic. Don't mistake it as a good replacement for a dedicated remote in your car, but that dedicated remote also won't tell you if the door is open or let you close it from across town. Granted, the alerts are a little much (Opening..., Open), (Closing..., Closed), but an easy way to keep track of comings/goings and make sure no one forgot to close the door after leaving. Wish I had gotten this sooner.

Fantastic product. I watched the installation video on YouTube and had zero problems with the setup of the device, app and connection to the WiFi. Installation at the garage was also easy. I chose to add in addition to our button so all I had to do was wire into that and it was all done. I tested everything before securing to the wall. Worked on the first attempt.I though about docking a star for not having integration into other smart home platforms out of the box but I can’t do that since they done advertise it does. I hope that integration can come in future updates.All in all I love the convenience of being able to open and close remotely and set certain rules. Great product.
