Favorite Scent
I am a big fan of these incense and often get the mixed pack, but always end up using Autumn Leaves first, so I grabbed this instead. Great value - sticks are a little shorter than in the mixed pack, but overall still wonderful quality!

Favorite for many years, similar to Plum Blossom
Like other reviewers, I too nursed one 35-stick box of this incense for quite a few years before discovering that more could be purchased online. The sticks in the new box are green in color, whereas the old (long) sticks were brown. The scent is ever-so-slightly different, possibly in the same way that different yarn/fabric dye baths are different from one another . . . But the difference is subtle, nothing I can quite put my finger on.For many years, I just thought of this scent as powdery in the best possible way. Lighting a stick had an immediate impact on my mood, and I tended to experience a sense of elevation related to the powdery quality. It wasn't until a few years later that I recognized cinnamon at the front of this incense, possibly because cinnamon was simply not something I expected to be smelling! But once recognized, the cinnamon is indeed a huge part of the scent profile. This incense is sweet and definitely similar to Plum Blossom (also by Shoyeido). They are both a cut above all the other scents I've tried, although I've never found anything made by this company in any way unpleasant. But Autumn Leaves & Plum Blossom are extra special. Plum Blossom is a little sweeter and a little stronger, and does not seem to contain cinnamon. Autumn Leaves (this box, anyway) is softer and more understated than Plum Blossom, and a bit more powdery. More sandalwood perhaps, and less benzoin. But, as stated above, they are very close in overall effect. If you like one, chances are you'll also enjoy the other.

Takes Some Getting Used To
I wasn'timpressed at first because I'm used to strongers melling incense. Unlike Nippon Kodo's Ka Fuh line, I can't detect any sandalwood whatsoever. I mostly smell sweet benzoin. It reminds me of cookies or cake baking. Underneath the benzoin there are undertones of tree sap and leaves and warm spices. This is somewhat reminiscent of pumpkin spice candles as another reviewer said. It is best to avoid sitting too close to the incense because the subtle notes are impossible to pick up on when the smoke is really concentrated. It helps to burn it outside too, so that the humidity scatters the scent more. I wasn't fond of this at first, but it is growing on me. The more I use it, the more I smell scents I missed the first time. It really does make me think of burning leaves in the fall, warm spiced tea and cake, pumpkins, and chilly evenings. I just think the scent should be more pronounced, it's so subtle. It needs more scent, less wood smoke. Other than that, I really like the packaging and it portrays its namesake pretty well. It's a lovely scent but if you're used to strong Indian incense like I am, it is a shock to the senses. You may not care for it at first either but give it a chance...it is really nice once you get to know it better!

My favorite
I’ve tried tons of the Shoyeido incenses since I live near a showroom in Colorado. This is my longtime favorite, and bonus that it happens to be one of the more affordable ones.Clean-burning, well balanced, soft yet effective scent… Earthy enough to not be sickeningly sweet, but sweet enough to not be too dank and earthy.

Excellent Daily Incense
This to me is a lighter version of Horon White River. It has a sweet under current of cookies or cake mixed with the spice and sandalwood. This is by no means a cloyingly sweet incense. It's very well blended. I get about 25min of burn/stick.

A Wonderful Forest Floor Aroma
This smells like an ancient forest floor. It has notes of patchouli, and sandalwood, decaying leaves and the faintest suggestion of Opium perfume. It's heavenly. Subtle but distinctive.
