This book was recommended by two different eating disorder specialists when my daughter was admitted to the hospital for anorexia. Evidently a lot of people consider this book to be the definitive source for parents of children with an eating disorder. There are very few resources available in this genre and since this one was recommended by the “experts” I wanted to read it. First of all it’s expensive, I did the digital version which was slightly less. I’m super disappointed with the material. It’s so focused on the fact that mothers (like fathers aren’t dieting or modeling behaviors?) are the main cause of eating disorders. I’m sure there is plenty of data to back that up but when it’s not your situation it gets tedious to read. I realize the author is trying to explain to parents various reasons for their child’s diagnosis but it just misses the mark by miles. I think the author would have benefited by starting the exploration that there’s a myriad of causes (mental health issues, PTSD, depression, SOCIAL MEDIA influence, peers) & your experience is just as unique as your child. Also more focus on how to support your child through treatment would’ve been beneficial. I wouldn’t waste your time or money on this book.

Excellent book to understand your daughter’s eating disorder eating it
Recommended by psychotherapist kind to help me, a mother of a 22 year old that I have discovered has a eating disorder. I have learned various aspects of eating disorder. How serious it is. It goes beyond wanting to lose weight or look thinner. It becomes a mental control that is actually out of control. My daughter m, an achiever, diligent, always good grades, smart, talented, and good head on her shoulders. But I find out many with eating disorder are so. Book has made me understand what eating disorder is and that it can take 2-5! Years to recover, or more depending on each situation and individual. It is written by a therapist that was herself someone who had a eating disorder. Highly recommend the book.

Excellent guide for parents and loved ones for someone recovering from an eating disorder, disordered eating or body dissatisfaction. Would also recommend Costin's 8 Keys book as a companion guide.
