Great unless the spider is small
Overall, I absolutely love this product! I have always been scared of spiders and needed a way to get them outside myself. I don't want to hurt them just because they scare me! This is great. It is really easy to use and doesn't seem to hurt the spiders as it's gentle. My only negative comment is that it doesnt work with smaller spiders. Although this isn't so bad as they're not as intimidating, it would be helpful to use the one solution for all the eight legged visitors!

Completely useless
I'm writing this review as I sit terrified on the sofa having just lost a battle with a massive spider. Let me paint the scene for you...I had a lovely bath, put on my cosy PJ's and climbed into my bed with fresh, clean sheets. I was so pleased to be finally getting to rest after a long day that, like something a corny film, I sighed delightedly to myself as I slid under the duvet. But like all the best horror films, this was the calm before the storm...I'm lying there, scrolling through my phone when... What was that? Something definitely moved in my periferal vision... No time to wait, to verify that it was an intruder and that my mind was not playing tricks on me... I mean, why take the risk? I flung the duvet over and leapt out of the bed. "HEEEELP" I called to my partner, "I'm pretty sure there's a spider on the bed."He begrudgingly came upstairs and shuffled the bed around. Nothing there. "Are you sure?" I asked, conscious of not wanting to wind him up.He was as sure as a person who had lightly jiggled a cover could be.So I nervously climbed back into the bed, perhaps it had just been a moth or a shadow.A couple of minutes go by and I feel a tickle on my forehead. "Don't be dramatic" I say to myself. "It definitely won't be a spider on your head." But I flick my head anyway to be safe. But as much as I try to relax, I can feel a malicious presence in the room. Something is nearby and it wishes me harm.At this point I'm barely noticing the crap I'm scrolling through on my phone, my eyes are darting beyond the screen as my thumb absentmindedly continues to swipe up, up, up.Arm. Tickle. Eyes. Focus. Spider. Huge. On my arm. ON MY ARM.I LEAP from the bed with an energy and vigour I haven't known since I was a teen (pulling both my abdominal muscles and my left calf) and let out a harrowing scream. There it is, it's on my pillow. Now it's on my teddy bear, in one stride it's on the other side of the bed. "MICHAEL THERE IS A SPIDER. AND ITS HUGE. ITS SO BIG. IT WAS ON ME." I shout down the stairs."I'd worked that out from your scream." He replies, sarcastically and in a way that tells me I'm certainly not going to be getting any urgency to deal with the situation, let alone any sympathy. My one saving grace is that I had bought this spider catcher a couple of weeks ago. And up he comes, my recalcitrant hero, armed with this tool. The tool whose sole function is to catch spiders. Or so I thought. How terribly and horrendously wrong I was.He jabbed at the monster with this thing, he tried going from above, he tried a quick jab from the side. He tried a sneak attack. But every attempt seemed to jeer the spider on. Like a drunk man in a fight he fully expected to lose who somehow manages to throw a couple of good punches, the spider became more cocky with every failed attempt to capture him with our weapon. In the frenzy of combat, the spider managed to escape. We lost the battle. We lost the war.I stood, on jelly legs, in the doorway as my hero flicked the covers a couple of times, and gave a cursory jiggle of the curtain. He turned to me and said words that I know will haunt me until my dying day.."It's gone".Gone.So here I sit. The spider claims my bed, my whole room as his spoil of war. And I am relegated to the sofa with the cat. This spider catcher cost me not only an arm (which will now have to be amputated after being touched by the spider) and a leg (which has several pulled muscles). It also cost me my dignity, my bed, my room, my sleep and most likely my relationship. Do not recommend.Edited to say that I did put it together correctly making sure that the pull rod was properly connected with the lower pole but it must slip out easily.

Great at catching spiders!
This is wonderful for catching spiders (and some other bugs) and then releasing them - all at arms length so you don't have to get too close. The only reason it doesn't get 5 stars is that it is not very robustly made and is very hard to store because it is unbalanced, so even when you hang it by it's handle on a hook it falls off easily, and because it's quite lightweight, this means it gets damaged easily. If the manufacturers could put a hanging loop or a hanging hole it would be so much more practical.

Follow the instructions!
I was a bit worried about this working properly after reading some of the reviews. And at first I thought the bad reviews were right, as it wasn't closing up the bristles enough. Unlike the shorter, original one. Then I looked at the instructions again! Instead of just screwing the 2 bits of the handle together, ( as is your first thought naturally) you need to hook the inner rods together first. Then it works perfectly. Just read the instructions and you'll be fine! Not tried it on a real 8 legged horror yet, but I feel more confident than before that I may be able to cope if ...when? ...one appears!Just wish the plastic practice one they include in the pack, was a more friendly, less scary colour. Pink or yellow maybe ...?Don't forget ... it looks straightforward - just screw the bits together right? Nope - read the instructions first!

Gets the job done. Kinda.
It's OK. It can get spiders out without you needing to get too close to them. However, it can be quite tricky and the success rate isn't great.I was chasing around one spider for a few attempts before I finally managed to catch it in the bristles. It struggles sometimes to capture the spider and you will often need multiple attempts. Certain spiders won't be catchable (for example, ones hiding under plug sockets ready to zip back into a hole). It's also ridiculously over priced due to the copyright and monopoly they have on the market. I'd say buy it if you desperately need some help for removing spiders. It can get a spider out that you would otherwise not be able to, but don't expect miracles. It's some bristles on the end of a plastic stick at the end of the day.

IT IS GREAT
I purchased two spider catchers, hoping to keep both. This one from Amazon is amazing. I am so pleased and I got XL which is worth it as the handle is longer. We practiced with the fake plastic spider it comes with and it works very well. I can't wait to see a real spider now I feel more confident. It might not be so great on little ones, but nobody is too bothered about the tiny spiders anyway just the big whoppers. I would like to say that I bought another type of spider catcher at the same time, it was a plastic box type and I think the whole process would make you sweat just having to see what you have captured in a box... so this bristle type is amazing because you can't really see the spider you can effortlessly pick him and and dispose him in the garden. Very pleased you won't regret it!

Doesn’t work.
I ordered the extra long handle but when the product arrived the Handel wasn’t that’s long. I used it to pick up a spider and the spider fell off and I kept having to catch it and just ended up using the cup and paper technique. I would not recommend as doesn’t really work.

One of the best things I’ve ever bought
This item is amazing. Especially if you have a phobia of spiders or just simply hate them. Most of the spiders I’ve found in my house have successfully been caught with this.
