Opticron imagic 8x42 F coat...
The build is superb, brilliant handling, optically well up the ladder but for a crude and rather stupid attempt at weather proofing these bino's would have made it to the "A" list, stunning colour nice and sharp good focus speed they have a nicely angled prism housing that fits the hand like the best German 8x40's of the 50's and 60's. What were they thinking take an exceptional instrument and bugger it up with oversized "O" ring seals on ocular tubes of small diameter connected to a standard sized focuser shaft way to weak and you end up with a bridge that twists and jams its way through the focus range delivering angular focus that varies depending on which way you turn the focus wheel. Now I know Opticron don't make these they are no more than an importer of optical equipment who like anyone else that buys a few hundred at a time get to have their name printed on the body, but surely you must have been away with the fairies opticron when you said yes to these bins, dump the "O" rings and hay what happens? A superbly made high quality bino that's what happens. I would recommend as an alternative either naturesport none wp, or legacy wp porro's the legacy/legend porro's do not suffer bridge problems but will stiffen up at low temp! FH

Good pair of binoculars for general use
I've owned a pair of Opticron Imagic 8 x 42 binoculars for a number of years. They are good, general use binoculars. My most intensive use has been on safari in South Africa and birdwatching. They are perfect for both of these. The image is crystal clear and bright. The focus is very sharp. At 23 ounces (650 grams) they are not super lightweight, but my arms have never got tired when using them. When I tried these binoculars out in the shop against other binoculars they won hands down for size, clarity of view and feeling comfortable in your hands. My wife uses them regularly and has quite small hands but thinks they are perfect. Very simply they do their job well and I've never regretted buying them.
