If you're even thinking of getting one from Petzl or some other name brand, just try one of these first. Works exactly as it should and less expensive. I've been using it over sharp edges while cleaning and bolting sport climbing routes and it's held up great. Metal prong rope grippers keep it in place. Enough room in it for two ropes. Ropes in picture are 10.5mm. Velcro is strong and keeps ropes in place.

This is a simple to use simply open and put it on the rope in a high wear area. Tension over sharp edges is what kills ropes. This allows you to keep your rope from wearing out too quickly. The quality seems well built from sturdy material. I was able to fit two 10.5mm ropes with room to spare. I would suspect this could fit 2 13mm ropes. I did add a 5mm accessory cord to it to allow it to prusik to the line as I think that would be better than the little spring clip. The spring clip works but I could see it getting mangled up in time and being less effective. The prusik cord also allows it to be tied to other near by objects to ensure it stays exactly in the spot that it is needed.

I’ve bought all the Rope Guards here on Amazon and out of all them this one was the one I was pleased with the most it’s not knock your socks off quality but for the price you pay and of course Prime shipping (if you are in need of rope guard in a timely manner like I was lol) It will protect your rope forsure especially compared to the others here on Amazon!! I’ve ended up buying another one of these, to make up for all the other garbage rope guards on Amazon.. I used this on sharp shale gully’s and worked perfectly fine so like I said if you are in a pinch cause of shipping time and or just looking for a cheap rope guard that is tough and will do the job I’d recommend this one out of the other ones here on Amazon!!

Works quite nicely and is a must for rappelling on the usually jagged shale type rocks here in North Central PA. I simply use the Velcro closure to wrap it over my double line above my Belay device. I then slide it with me as I start over an edge and release it where I need the most protection. Once it is pressed onto the edge by the rope it does not budge. I usually do not need to use the clamping wire but, if it does slide further down the ropes when I pull the rappel ropes to retrieve it, I then clamp it on. It still slides very easily to my release point. Then it comes up with the rope when pull it once back on top.

Bought this if I needed to quickly add to my winch rope. The Velcro helps to not having to undo my setup to slide a sleeve over the rope. It’s short but would do in a quicker recovery.
