And although I laughed a lot while reading, at the end, I choked up big time. That's my favorite kind of experience with a book, to be both amused and moved. I will read anything Eric Poole writes, so Mr. Poole, keep those fingers moving! Review: I'm on team Poole, you will be too after reading - This book is a great summer read for anyone who has doubted their own inner voice. Most of us take years to discover our true selves and live with integrity and vision. This is a story is a young man overcoming his fear of himself in that quest. Sometimes memoirs can be heavy and somber. This book is instead refreshing and hilarious, highlighting the author's own insecurities and self-doubt as he learns that his dreams and fantasies can be both ridiculous and achievable. Discovering which is which is all part of growing into adulthood. As someone who likewise grew up in a conservative and religious family Eric's Poole's experiences are so relatable to me. You don't have to be gay to appreciate the universal angst and self deprecating humor of another human discovering his authentic self. I don't doubt his parents are proud

Didn't Want This Book to End
Excuse Me While I slip Into Someone More Comfortable is as funny as the title suggests. This is a hilarious memoir that takes us through Eric Poole's journey to find himself. But in all the humor, the hope, the confusion, and the struggles are never lost. I found myself rooting for the author as he navigated high school, experienced college, accepted his sexuality, and searched for success with his talent for humor in his toolbox. The humor enhances but never overshadows the emotions of the journey. This is Poole's second memoir, and I am crossing my fingers that he will write a third And a fourth, fifth...). As a fan of Erma Bombeck, I feel that Eric Poole has surpassed his desire to be a Boy Bombeck. Read Where's My Wand and Excuse Me While I Slip Into Someone More Comfortable. I highly recommend both.

Honest and Hilarious
This is the second book I have read by Eric Poole, and he keeps getting better. His first collection of personal stories (Where’s my Wand…read it!!!) was funny and quirky and recalled his earliest memories of growing up in the St. Louis area. He was an ambitious kid with an effortless sense of hope and a hilarious mother. This newer collections traces his memories as a young man, just starting his life after school, and still dreaming of getting out of St. Louis and discovering the true “Eric.” The newer collection offers more moments of honest poignancy- which results in a richer, more emotional read. While I expected to like his second book, I was surprised at how much I was moved. I loved this book and I highly recommend it.

Eric gives our dreams, hope!
I read Mr. Poole's first book, Where's My Wand?, and it was hilarious! His younger years of growing up and reflections of his childhood friends and family is a wonderful read! His second book, Excuse Me While I Slip into Someone More Comfortable, picks up in his high school years and carries the reader into Eric's adulthood. Again, his memoir brings laughter as Eric grows up, but it also brings you inspiration and you just might reflect to your own forgotten childhood dreams. So, thank you Eric Poole for such a creative, fun, reflective read! I look forward to your next book!

A book about figuring out who you are
This book chronicled the life of a St Louis teenager as he ages, comes to terms with who he is, and figures out how the world works. I unfortunately found him to be insufferable in his hubris, grandeur, and lack of understanding of the world around him. It was satisfying to watch him grow and become slightly more realistic at least.

It’s about time someone wrote a book about me!
Ralph Waldo Emerson said “what’s true for you in your own heart, is true for all mankind.” Even though this story is an autobiography, it isn’t just about Eric Poole, it’s about many of us and the feelings we experience going through adolescence: first love, first jobs and discovering the people we are going to be. I loved reading this book. I turned the last page with the disappointment of someone who’s just discovered they’re all caught up on their favorite show. I would love to see it made into a TV series!

Guaranteed Laughter
Try as you might, you won’t be able to contain yourself from laughing out loud at this “Who the hell am I, anyway?” memoir by an ever-burgeoning author, Eric Poole. Not gonna lie- when my copy arrived, I’d had a crappy week and was a pretty big bummer to be around. After two pages of Excuse Me, the corners of my mouth lifted like the Grinch after realizing Christmas didn’t come from a store. By page three, belly laughs came freely. The author has such a magical way of taking potentially awkward or painful moments and transforming them into an uproarious missive to self-discovery. I would recommend this book to anyone looking for a good laugh and a constant smile. Believe me, the author’s self-deprecating humor, sincerity, and endearing prose will cure what ails ya. Buy it and read it. It’s cheaper than Prozac.
