Well written Bruce history
After discovering I am a direct descendant of Robert the Bruce, I figured I should do a bit of research to find out more about the man and the times he lived in. Robert Bruce: Our Most Valiant Prince, King and Lord by author Colm McNamee helped me learn more about my distant ancestor and the world he lived in.His writing is very readable and if you are looking for a brief history, and overview of Scotland and the Bruce family, you'll enjoy reading his book.Recommend.MR

Full of little details that humanize Robert the Bruce.
The book dissects popular myths and misinformation and the result is a better understanding of Robert Bruce, the man.

Colm McNamee's Robert Bruce
I have been trying to clarify the history on Robert Bruce while sorting fact from fable. This book had lots of the detail and background of those medieval times. When finished with the reading I had a better understanding of the man and his legacy. Will probably reread many times.

Slow moving and boring
I bought this book while in Scotland as a souvenir to learn even more about Robert the Bruce. I’d seen the Netflix movie and enjoyed it so I assumed the book would be just as good. It starts out strong, but over time just becomes way too long winded and boring. If you are looking to learn more about Robert as a person, this isn’t the book for you. It’s a decent enough overview of the time, but I wouldn’t recommend this book.

Good. If uneven
Good. If uneven. If you're wanting detailed analysis of battles, such as Stirling, you will be disappointed, the author dedicates about a page or two at most. Many are glossed over very quickly making the book feel very rushed at times trying to fit the scope into a contained manner. Events move so fast it can be difficult to follow. The more interesting parts I've found are the authors own input. such as how Bruce must have felt awkward going against his patriots. It adds character and much needed humanity to a sometimes very dry book. It's still very good mind, I'm sure if you prefer hard raw data it will be very welcome. For myself (a casual reader) would have liked abut more personality put into it.One of the better Bruce books, to be sure.

Good but heavy going.
Bought this as my hubby is an extra on the up and coming Chris pine film, the outlaw king. Found it insightful but heavy going. Glad it says Robert Bruce instead of Robert THE Bruce. Annoys me that bit. :)

An in depth insight into the life of Robert The Bruce
If like me, you are looking for a more meaty in depth read about the life and career of Robert The Bruce then this book is definitely worth a look. Some parts require concentration and if you're looking for a light read I'd probably look for an alternative book.

Good Introduction
I did enjoy this book and thought it was a good introduction to Robert the Bruce, though I had some knowledge of him previously. It was a great read in its own right and went at some pace. There is a good deal of focus on the Wars of Independence, as you would expect. Would heartily recommend it!
