The opening in the brace that supports the neck is too wide, not enough depth. So it is more suited to stop the guitar from falling forward and less so for falling sideways. This means you have to make sure your guitar is placed properly in the middle of the neck brace. However the bottom brace compensates (depending on the size of your guitar) by holding the body securely.

These are good units, in fact I have a number of them and prefer them to the head stock hanging type... rather keep the strain off the neck any more than normal.
