A do it yourself kit for Monitor repair
I bought my Gateway FPD 2485W in 2006, had it repaired in 2010. Now it it needs to repaired again in 2018 -- same issue -- blown capacitors. I could hear them popping one by one until finally, one day the monitor would light no more.Unfortunately, the cost to pay someone else to repair the monitor is close to the cost to buy a new monitor. And that's if you can find a shop willing to repair it. Most shops today will not repair monitors or printer -- because it is usually cheaper to just replace them. And you also get more up-to-date technology. So having a kit like this enables most of us to do the job ourselves and save big bucks, or just to get the repair done because no one else will. The kit appears to have everything you might need, except a soldering iron. There are also "how to" videos on YouTube on how to take the monitor apart.I haven't actually repaired the monitor yet. Instead I bought a new monitor -- an LG 43" 43UD79-B, which is near infinitely better than the Gateway. But I'm not throwing the Gateway out just yet. I will repair it, though it is dated now, with VGA and DVI ports -- not to mention needing the capacitors to be periodically replaced.

Have time and a solder iron? Why not?!
Fixed my 11 year old monitor in about 3 hours. SOOO happy. I loved this monitor series.First I would hear whining, then one day it didn't power-on at all. No kidding, this monitor was in my car waiting to be dropped off at an e-waste place. So I Google'd for the most common problem with these monitors - bad/cheap caps. I took a chance and ordered as I had nothing to lose except for $14 and some time. Note: I have a professional soldering iron and a solder sucker - this make a BIG difference in your work speed and quality. The biggest problem with the project is separating the two shell halved, tricky since this is 11 yr. old brittle plastic- use plastic or wood spudgers.***Be careful with a tiny ribbon cable that connects the menu board on the right of the monitor's front shell/bezel to its CPU board. In fact, don't disconnect it, not worth it. Do not separate front shell from the screen more than 1 inch. Then you remove the tin-foil shields, remove the 2 power boards (not the CPU board) and desolder/solder and reassemble carefully. I didn't put on the back shell until I knew the monitor worked plugged in - however that is risky as heck considering the real voltage back there - but disassembling the case is awful too.I wish I had recorded the project but 3 hours removing soldering is boring. Here are some pictures instead.

A well worth repair for a great monitor.
Parts showed up in time. All the caps were there plus five more I didn't need. Taking apart the monitor wasn't too bad, take your time and work from the bottom up, make sure to take off the mounting bracket on the back. I've done similar repairs, here is a tip. At a welding supply shop you can buy a tiny jewelers drill set, tiny drill bits that are hand held. I use these to chase out the holes for the caps. Make sure to get your polarity straight, the longer lead is positive. My trusty Gateway monitor is running good again, it was doing weird stuff and I sometimes had to unplug the power to get things working again. Now it lights right up when the computer starts. Sweet.

The actual power supply board clearly showed which caps were bad. Only replaced the 4 caps that showed clear ...
10 year old Gateway monitor had the "now I'm on! Ooops, I'm off" powered but no picture fault. Received kit in just a few days. Getting the trim off and replacing the tiny ribbon cable to the controls was the only tricky bit. Be patient. The actual power supply board clearly showed which caps were bad. Only replaced the 4 caps that showed clear indication of "bulging". Fixed monitor and back in business for less money than a minimum order from an electronics house. This is a trivial fix for anyone with a modicum of electronics experience, but newbies might want to get a quickie hobby kit locally to practice their soldering skills first. Fully recommend.

Absolutely outstanding.
My monitor works again. You get the capacitors and solder (could use more) and solderwick (also could use more) and other cleaning goodies.A tip for the user. Remove and replace one capacitor at a time so you don't get them mixed up.
