From the Manufacturer Awesome is what the Ventris is. Introduced in 2011, the Pro Series II line features "big boy" toys. The Ventris launches on composite motors and has through the wall fin mounting. An awesome feature to this series is the new quick release motor retention system (Motor Retainer Set - also sold separately). Though massive looking, the construction of this kit is not difficult. Building and finish work can easily be accomplished over a few days. Sure to be a crowd pleaser, the Ventris is just waiting to be added to your collection. Estes Pro Series II model rocketry is recommended for ages 18 and up. All models require assembly. Tools, construction and finishing supplies sold separately. In order to launch, a launch system, model rocket motors, igniters and recovery wadding are required - sold separately.

Into the clouds
I've built many rockets over the years but this is the first one that went high enough that it disappeared in the clouds for a while before safely returning. Granted I don't usually launch on such an overcast day but this was awesome cool.

Value plus Vroom!
A real value in a semi-pro rocket kit.

Terrific mid-power kit, builds well, flies well. Great for L1 certification flight
All the parts are perfectly cut and fit together nicely. The build is simple and very solid especially if the fins are glued to the motor tube and filleted well. The body tubes and fins are thick and solid on the PS-II Builders Kits although the PS-II E2X kits are built more lightly. The 29mm screw-on engine mount is a very nice and solid touch and allows high-power engines to be used too. (up to about H power.) The 2.5" diameter payload bay is ideal for altimeters or video cameras such as the 808 which I have flown the rocket with.I used this rocket to gain my Level 1 certification with an Aerotech H128 motor flying to 2,583 feet with a max. speed of 523mph as measured by the Jolly Two altimeter. Perfect flight. Thanks to Estes for taking it to the next level.

One of my favorites
This is one of my favorite rockets in my fleet. It's one of the largest I've built so far. I've flown it a number of times on Aerotech single use F motors and Ceseroni reloadable Fs; most recently on a Ceseroni G. That would have been a great flight except that, and Estes is certainly not to blame for this, I unwisely used a different method to attach the parachute and it came loose at deployment. Parachute floated away and the rocket landed rather hard. Only damage was a popped fin; it'll fly again.I haven't tried an H and am not sure I'd want to. It'd probably work (and others have done it) though it's not designed for high power. I'm not sure I want to send it that high, though. But that's just me.I will mention two caveats, neither worth knocking a star off for. First is: the photos show a roll pattern, but no such decal is provided. (Only an Estes logo decal.) The instructions say you can order the decal separately from Estes but in fact you can't. But it is available from Excelsior Rocketry, I believe, or you could print your own... or you could just omit the roll pattern. I did that, and painted the main body tube a gloss dark grey, and I'm happy with it. The second is that what looks like a large payload section between the nose and transition is taken up almost entirely by the long shoulders on those two pieces. The instructions say to glue them in, forming essentially a large, closed nose cone. I considered cutting the shoulders back and gluing only the transition to make it a useable payload section, and I know others who've done that, though since I was pressed for time I just went ahead and built it per the instructions.

Awesome rocket, super high flyer and a pleasure to build
The first flight of the Ventris that went perfectly and held its own with other big rockets around!
