How to Solve Our Human Problems: The Four Noble Truths

Wonderful Book!
How to Solve Our Human Problems by Geshe Kelsang Gyatso is a remarkable book that sheds light on how we can change mankind by first changing ourselves. Gyatso explains that we can improve, "our human nature and qualities through developing the capacity of our mind." We are to realize the far reaching effects of suffering on our future lives, abandon the delusions that so often cloud our mind, strive to attain permanent freedom from suffering, and practice moral discipline. All Dharma, or teachings of Buddha, is included in these four noble truths, directly or indirectly. As we learn to have a positive mind and rise above our self-cherishing and self-grasping, we can find inner peace and accomplish the real meaning of human life. This book was enjoyable to read. It caused me to think about why I do the things that I do. It uncovered my flaw in thinking others to be the cause of my pain, anger, or suffering. I believe we all struggle with this at times. Just as the director of an orchestra oversees the balance of all the different instruments, so we are the directors of our lives, and we are responsible for the balance of the many things competing for our attention. I have learned that I am responsible for how I act in and balance my life. I cannot blame others for breaks in my inner peace. This is only one of multiple reasons for enjoying this book.I do not believe all the things that Buddha taught, but I do have the utmost respect for all that he taught and for anyone who faithfully lives by the Dharma. I still have a very elementary knowledge of what Buddha taught, but I am grateful for what I do know at this point. There is much truth to be found in Buddha's teaching, and I believe that anyone who faithfully applies this truth will see their lives blessed. Geshe Kelsang Gyatso states at the end of his book that he truly desires that "compassion and wisdom develop and increase for everyone." I truly feel that his desire can be realized to the extent that each person who reads will realize the virtues herein contained.

Clear and practical advice for living, minimal Buddhist jargon
Unlike many Buddhist books—including many by Geshe Gyatso— this one does not get bogged down in obscure jargon and concepts that confuse the western reader. Instead, it deals directly with anger and practical ways to overcome it. This is the kind of Buddhist book I am looking for— one that gives me practical insights for living.

An Excellent Book for anyone who wants to Control Anger and understand Wisdom
This is an excellent book by Geshe Kelsang Gyatso. I started reading this book to understand the philosophy behind Anger, and How to control it, which this book explains in a very fundamental way. I got glued to the way the concept of Patience, Jealousy and Retaliation has been talked about in this book, and How to Control them? The style of asking Rhetorical questions followed by answers is a great way to explain the concepts; we normally ask such questions to ourselves in our daily routine. This book is a must read for anyone over 30 Years, who wants to improve themselves and understand their behavior better. There are certain philosophies, like rebirth into lower being and good karma bad karma, which many may not agree with and deem impractical. Leaving those aside, you can get many great things explained in this book. I started practicing the Patience; immediately after I read this book. Now, I could see the difference in its application at my work, personal and social life. I could understand my wife, kid better. This book is worth every penny. Good piece of work.

BUDDHA'S TEACHINGS ON THE FOUR NOBLE TRUTHS ARE CLEAR, COMPELLING, AND COMPASSIONATE.
The instructions Geshe Kelsang Gyatso explains in his book "How to Solve your Human Problems" are very insightful and applicable to people in the Western world living busy lives. Geshe Kelsang explains how happiness and suffering are states of mind. Because this is true, if we learn how to control our minds, then we can learn how to experience deep happiness and inner peace even in the face of very difficult circumstances. This is the first book I have ever seen that distills down the teachings of Buddha to their very essence and explains them in a way that is easily understandable for both a beginner embarking on their spiritual journey, and the advanced meditator who has years of experience under their belt. I recommend this book to anyone who has a genuine interest in improving their lives and being of benefit to others.

Thought provoking
This little book imparts a whole lot of wisdom. I began reading this feeling completely overwhelmed by issues in my life. As I continued to read it, I actually felt myself really relaxing and my spirits lifting. I just felt better and like weights were being lifted off my shoulders. I don't practice Buddhism and so there were a few parts I read and thought "Whoa! That is really out there." But I love to read thought provoking pieces that challenge me to look at things in a different way. This book does that and is a great read with a lot of wisdom for leading a peaceful life.

Fantastic, practicle book
This is a really great book. First, it's a quick read at only about 90 pages. It's not too technical or dry like some of Geshe Kelsang Gyatso's books can be. Whether following the path or not, it's full of practical advice on how to deal with anger, frustration and the desire to retaliate against those that do you harm. This is a book that you can read many times and reap benefits each time through. I would highly recommend this book to anyone who is looking to increase the amount of happiness in their life!

Great for beginners.
I got this book to coincide with meditation sessions where the teachings of the book are discussed in the session. I am new to all of this, but hope I will continue to practice meditation and the teachings.

You'll be highlighting, underlining and scribbling on the pages
Written clearly and concisely. This book really makes you think twice about how you've run your life. You know the errors you've made the author offers some ways to correct the stumbling blocks. It's a book that you'll want to use and reflect upon over and over. Admittedly it takes time to change this book may be the one finally to resonate with you. It has with me. Happy travels...............

There’s better books in this category
First half of the book was good and gripping. Second half I lost interest and stopped reading, some of the theories are hard to grasp when it uses an example of someone hitting you with a stick and saying you shouldn’t be angry with the person it’s not their fault it’s the sticks for being there or yours for being in that place too.Jay Shetty think like a monk is a much better representation of modern life ways to think like a monk.

writing inside the book
The book arrived on time. I was very disappointed at the inside of the book. Someone has written on may pages in red pen inside. This wasn't flagged up on the advert. I have found it difficult to read because of this
