More than I expected
Ok, I really wanted to hate this machine. See, I'm a fan of Neato brand and the only reason I bought the Roomba was for the self emptying feature. So when I say I'm impressed, that's saying a lot! I've had this Roomba up and running for almost a month now. Setting up the machine was very easy and quick. Just follow the instructions. It took 2 times going around my house to build a map. I think maybe 2.5 hours total. The map was created and I was able to use it to name the rooms it thought it found. You can customize the possible rooms the machine suggests by moving the lines it creates on your phone. You can also name the rooms so you can tell it which room you want it to vacuum at any given point. Very user friendly and intuitive. The first time around the house I thought it was just going on a fast tour to get the lay of the land. I was surprised to see dirt from the floor disappearing as it passed over them. This machine is very quiet compared to my old robot vacuum. And FAST! I couldn't believe how fast it was moving and picking up dirt. The dogs were surprised too because they don't like the robot vacuums. (One thinks it's trying to steal his toys. The other just wants nothing to do with it.) As the vacuum was zipping around the room, both dogs (66 lb and 90 lb dogs mind you) said, Aight. Ima head outside. Ok, I thought, here's where I'm going to hate it. There's no way this can be vacuuming as well as the other brand did going this fast and this quiet. I have to admit, though, the floors look great. I have the 2 big dogs I've mentioned and one is the king of shed and i have to have the vacuum run every day to keep up with the shedding. My sister even commented on how good the carpets looked. So I lost every reason I had to hate this vacuum. The app on the phone is extremely easy to use. I now have 2 cleaning schedules. One that vacuums the whole house 3 times a week and one that vacuums just the living room every other day. Easy to set up once the map is complete. I like that it tells you how many square feet of floor it's cleaned each time and an overall cumulative total as well. You can look at the map where it cleaned for that day and it shows where it discovered "dirt events." I assume these are areas it detected more dirt than normal. Apparently, when it finds one of these areas, it comes back and runs over them a second and sometimes a third time as well. Those areas are marked on the map of what was cleaned with darker colored squares. And I'm fairly certain they're correct because they are always places in the room where the dogs play and lay around. Some other areas of interest. It handles going from regular carpet to tile floor with no problems. It seems to handle when one of the dog's toys don't get picked up much better than other vacuums I've had. It has only gotten stuck one time. That was when one of the dog's rope toys got a frayed end caught. But I was there when it happened and able to quickly fix the situation. When it empties it's bin, I will say the first couple of times will startle you. Sounds like a jet engine revving! I though an appliance had decided to explode the first time I heard it. My sister bought the I6 as well and said it told her to empty her bag at the base once. But she said it didn't feel like it was full and she kind of shook the dirt down and it's continuing now. One con, because it moves so fast, when it bumps into your cold bare feet as you're sitting there it can be startling and a bit painful. lol Overall, I would definitely recommend this robot vacuum. It's fast, efficient and very thourough. The app is very user friendly. And the whole system is as "set it and forget it" as you can get. I'm very pleased.

Awesome Roomba for Pet Owners
This Roomba is well worth the money. We have used a Roomba off and on for over ten years. Before the i7 series I can admit I pretty much liked it for the novelty of the product more than the functionality of it. When I was a bachelor in a small apartment, its haphazard bouncing around was more than adequate. When we had a bigger condo and toddlers running around the older roomba's were ineffective. Now that we have two kids almost pre-teen and two huskies - we needed some more help. In comes the i7. We recently put in dark wood floors and while we love the look - everything shows. A crumb can be viewed from across the house and our huskies are white and black so any dropped hair is easily visible. We do sweep and mop regularly to collect the bulk of the stuff in the usual places (such as crumbs in the kitchen or dining room) but there is nothing quite like waking up to a clean floor. We got the i7 because of the mapping features, but it is so much more. Pros: - Mapping - We will start with why we bought this. The i7 Roomba does not simply bounce around like those before it. This roomba has a sensor that will detect if its about to collide with an object and then slows down to slightly bump the object and begins to map where the object is in a room. After two runs (for us) the Roomba had fully mapped the first floor (about 1000sq ft). Once mapped we can place room dividers, name the rooms, and even mark out "no go" zones to keep it away from either the dog's water bowl or some cables we don't want it to go near. This feature works exceptionally well. - The sensor - as mentioned above we have kids and dogs. This means that no matter how much we pick up the floor, one of the creatures in this house is going to come behind us and put any number of things out in the middle of the floor where it doesn't belong. The i7 Roomba can identify when it is approaching an object and will slow down to give it a gentle nudge. More often than not in our house its a sleeping husky. One of them politely moves for the Roomba to do its job. The other one simply lays there stubbornly and we end up with a husky sized outline of clean/not clean. It is actually as humorous as it sounds. - The cleaning "bristles" - I was pretty sure that having wood floors would mean we could never have a Roomba again. We actually waited more than a year before we even tried looking. The newer generation has a rubber roller it uses to move dirt to the middle of its path and then collect as it goes over. This system is great and ensures the floor doesn't get damaged. - The cleaning base - If you are looking at this i7+ it should come with a cleaning station. This is essentially the power dock with a dust bag in it for collection. Having Huskies, this thing is a must. If for some reason we are lazy and don't do a quick sweep before sending the Roomba on its way or if there was an area the kids inevitably "forgot" to do as part of their chores - the roomba will detect that it is full, return to its base, drop off its bin, and return to the place that it left off. If the battery is low, it will take a break, send your app a push message that it needs to juice up for a minute and will resume when its ready. Cons: - Noise - To be fair - its a vacuum. I am not really sure what some people expect here. I typically turn it on while I am doing the dishes or when we go to bed. It doesn't keep us up, but it would probably be a bit annoying to watch a tv show in the same room as it. - Can get stuck - Its a robot and it does what it can. It is 1000% better than previous versions but we do have a rocking chair that it occasionally catches itself on. By occasionally I mean maybe 3-4 times since we bought it and we have used it nightly. - Clean Base Noise - This is more of a warning than a con, so just be aware. When the Roomba is emptying the dust bin you have one vacuum cleaning another vacuum. There is a very loud suction noise for about 15 seconds and then its done. Imagine like a car wash vacuum starting up and that is the noise. Unavoidable and not a defect by any means but surprising if you aren't expecting it. The last part is the i7 over the newer s9 series. When we purchased the i7 the s9 had already been out for some time. I had set out to get the latest and greatest, but the product reviews pretty much everywhere for the s9 were spotty. Everything from them getting stuck/lost, to not holding a battery, to needing taken apart during customer service calls. Those items might be fixed by now (Sept 2020), they can do firmware updates to the machines. We picked the i7 because we knew it would work straight out of the box and it was cheaper due to the release of the s9. There were also no real compelling features to the s9 upgrade over the i7 aside from the fact it can get into a 90 degree angle with ease, but so can the i7 using its side brush. At the end of the day - I recommend the i7 over the s9, but that could change down the road.

Over the years I have had about a half dozen robot vacs, from four different manufacturers. The early ones were lacking in power and battery, but they worked well enough until they croaked after two years each. I bought an iRobot (a lower-priced vac than this one) a couple of years ago, and since then it's been busily cleaning my bedrooms and offices effectively. It's worked almost flawlessly, as long as I clean it properly, replace the replaceable bits at intervals, and my only complaint is it's a bit noisy. I've been looking at this i7+ for a while now, and finally clicked Buy. The goal was to install it at my second house, where I visit every couple of weeks, and let it keep the dust and pet hair under control while I'm not in the house, replacing the vac bag when I do visit. To be honest, I wasn't optimistic things would go well, but I have been pleasantly surprised. A few things stand out right away compared to the older iRobot I use in my office. To start, the noise of the vac is a lot less...it's more than a buzz, but it's not sounding like industrial cleaning devices on my floors! Second, the battery seems to last longer; I can get almost an hour out of the i7+ while my older iRobot complains after about 20 minutes. Third, this one is a lot smarter: it remembers where it's cleaned and continues where it leaves off while running back to the base station to empty and recharge. Fourth, my older one keeps getting stuck hanging off a stair or wedged in a corner between furniture; this i7+ has not hung up on a step yet, and has managed to extricate itself from several tight spots. Lots of improvements! As for the auto dirt disposal system, so far it's worked fantastically. Either under control of the app or the robot, the vac snuggles in to the charging station and a vacuum starts up (quite noisy compared to the robot...about the same as a regular vac) and sucks all the dirt from the robot dirt container into the bag in the upright unit. It takes about 15 seconds, and a quick inspection shows it does a really nice job of emptying the robot. every now and again you still need to go in and give the rollers a clean (especially if you have pets, like I do) and wash out the dirt bin, but I am doing that once every two to four weeks, which is fine. As for the dust bin in the receptacle, it tends to last about four weeks (the first house cleaning it filled in two days, but four dogs and a cat were the reason). I suspect without pets I would only replace the bag every month of two. The bag itself is a clever design with a sliding door to ensure you don't spray dirt all over when you remove the bag. I've been really impressed with this i7+. Its' not caused one issue so far, and while that's too good to last, I'm delighted with the system. So much so that I'm considering a second for the other floor of the house. This isn't inexpensive, but when I think I pay office cleaning staff to do the same job vacuuming the floor, this pays for itself in a month! I've read lots of negative comments in posts here and elsewhere, but so far, I have zero to complain about. Update: After two years, these i7s are still working perfectly. I have several s9+ too, and they are a pain to work with; they always jam, stop working, and report dirty sensors every day. The i7s just work, perfectly. I will be replacing my s9s with i7s. I can't recommend the i7+ enough!

I got the iRobot i7 after having a Shark IQ Robot for a year so I can draw a direct comparison between the two. Both robots come with a self-emptying station. Both can map your floor that you can divide into rooms/areas and direct them to vacuum specific areas. Both can be scheduled for cleaning and they will automatically return to their base to empty their bins or recharge before continuing. Both clean really well and pulled lots of pet hair. Both robots will work their best to find their way into all spaces to vacuum. Both can do thick carpets. This is about where the similarities stop. So wins and losses between the Roomba i7 and Shark IQ The Roomba can work in darkness. The Shark IQ requires a well lit room. This is a bigger deal than most think. Roomba wins here. The Roomba app connects quickly and the unit will immediately go to the area you tell it to clean. The Shark app is terrible. Will often lose the floor map and I have to redo it. Instructions to go clean a certain room doesn't always work and when it does, it's 5 minutes later. Roomba wins again HANDS DOWN on the app. This is my biggest frustration with the Shark. The Shark IQ will sometimes get lost. It won't know where it is in the floor map and will have problems going back to its base. The Roomba has not shown this symptom so far. Roomba wins. The Roomba is just a tad thicker than the Shark IQ. The Shark IQ can fit under our computer desk, but not the Roomba. Maybe not be an issue for you, but the Shark wins here. The Shark has a physical switch on the side and it often turned itself off by rubbing against wall door stops. No such problem with the Roomba. Roomba wins. The Roomba requires virtual wall devices to create no-go zones. They're costly and none come with the unit. The Shark IQ requires magnetic strips that are very inexpensive, can be cut to length, but can look weird on your floor depending where you lay them. However, you can draw no-go zones in the Roomba app. It can be tricky, but it's doable in the app. For the Roomba, I am able to set a no-go zone around the Christmas tree (while it's there) and it works. Roomba wins in my book. Parts for the roomba (replacement rolls, filters, etc) are available everywhere. The Shark doesn't have as big of a parts market where I live. Roomba wins. The Roomba's base need a bag that you have to replace when full (Comes with two). The Shark IQ just has a bin that you empty therefore no need to buy bags. Shark IQ wins. So far the Roomba wins my vote. The app connects, works and the Roomba will go clean where I tell it to without delay. The Shark will start a generic clean and get the instruction to go in the Kitchen 5-10 minutes later. Sometimes the command just doesn't get to it. And the Shark app takes a long time to connect.

If you have pets and don't have a vacuum robot, this is a great buy. Roomba does save me a lot of efforts in cleaning my home with cats shedding hairs and litter tracking everyday. But IMO it's only worth the money when it's on sale. Pros: 1. It does the job!!!! Although not perfect, it definitely does the job you would expect a robot to do. 2. It comes with the dirt disposal bin, which I believe is a must for every vacuum robot. 3. The app is simple and intuitive. It's easy to customize room, cleaning zones and no-go zones. 4. It's easy to find parts. Cons: 1. Too expensive. It Roborock is available in Canada and comes with a disposal bin, I'll get that one, which performs a lot better in hard wood floor and quieter but almost the same in price. 2. No lidar technology, which helps robot navigate better and work in dark room. 3. Loud on hard wood floor. Just OK (Not pros nor cons): 1. Performance is just OK on hard wood floor. I need to use my Dyson sometimes since the robot doesn't pick up all dirts. It's acceptable but I expect it to pick up more at its current price. 2. Navigation is just OK. It gets stuck under my chairs for a lot of times but overall it does most jobs. 3. The maps is not accurate and will not change if there's no significant changes to your room, such as if you just move your furniture a bit. Although it may not affect robot performance, it makes you crazy if you have OCD.

Imagine there was a robot that picked up your clothes, washed them, dried them, ironed them and put them in your closet or drawer. Imagine there was a robot that picked up your dirty dishes, washed them, dried them and put them in the cupboard. This is what the Roomba does when cleaning your floors! You simply run it and it maps the entire place. It goes back and recharges as needed until the job is done. It also self-empties, so you only need to change the bag every few months. If you change your furniture it's not a problem as it will navigate them well. There are two places that it got stick with certain furniture, so I added a small "keep out zone" and it's worked fine without any problem. Just do a quick scan of the place to make sure there are no socks or loose wires on the floor and you should be good. I also tucked the strings at the end of my carpets underneath them and used an anti-slip underlay from IKEA. You'll know where it will run into problems in the first two runs or so and you can adjust your environment or designate certain areas as "keep out zones". It appears to have the ability to map multiple floor plans although I just needed the one. I simply put it to automatically run on Mon, Wed, Fri at 9 am and it goes through the 940 square feet in 2.5 hours, while coming home to recharge once. Since the map allows to compartmentalize all spaces, I have a schedule called "Post Meal" which I can run manually after we eat and it only cleans the dining room, kitchen and entryway, which are the dirtiest places. I also run it only for the master bathroom after I come out of the shower to pick up any towel lint or hair that may be on the floor. It's a wonderful machine that has freed up a lot of time and improved the home environment immensely. I haven't vacuumed once in a month and probably won't ever because when 80% of the house is clean, even the hard to reach spots remain relatively dust free as I have observed from moving stuff around recently. I transitioned from a Bissel bagged vacuum (https://www.amazon.ca/Bissell-2154C-Canister-Vacuum-Bagged/dp/B0752TJFMG/) and the Roomba does a better job of keeping the floors and carpets clean. It didn't matter how high the suction of the vacuum cleaner was or if the brushes were out, the Roomba brought out the colours of the carpets and floors are shining. No need to mop the floors anymore. Other items to complete the dust free environment: 1. Levoit air-purifier that detect dust or cooking stuff in the air: https://www.amazon.ca/Purifier-Cleaner-Allergies-Eliminator-LV-PUR131S/dp/B07NR9KL8J 2. Vent air purifiers. I got mine from Canadian TIre: Duststop Ultimate Electrostatic Hammock Air Filter 3. Double sided tapes from 3M to stick the Went air purifiers to the vent (https://www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B08GFLV5Y2/)
