John ReynoldsOriginal Citroen DS (reissue): The Restorer's Guide to all DS and ID models 1955-75

Go for the best car in the world !
I've had my copy since 1996 but I wouldn't get too excited over owning one; the book I mean. I 've owned ID's and Ds's since coming to my senses in 1995 when I traded in a 3000 series Healey for an ID19, followed two years later by a DS21 Pallas with tabac leather and auto, which is the only way to go. Unfortunately the famous Michelin X tyres/tires are only made to order but still not excessively costly given the mileage you get from a set. The secret to keeping a DS is to keep it clean and also changing the fluids as required. For this I obtained a 4 post lift and raised the roof in my garage workshop to enable me to clean and service the car properly. They are entirely adjustable so a complete set of wrenches are a worthwhile investment. I've had Snap On for decades. It is still possible to get parts and workshop manuals. They are basic mechanical creatures and have non of the annoying electronic gear of the so called high performance cars of today. I've only given the book one star because I've found that the best guide to restoration is a parts and workshop manual. They are printed in English and the parts books I've seen on Amazon. Workshop manuals may be harder to obtain. I don't own one now having sold my DS21 in Canada, where it had been for years. The DS23 went some time ago as I didn't have a proper garage to keep it in. Philippe Looson near Lyon France restores them to new and I'm thinking of one for the 'last hurrah'. I want a more relaxed lifestyle with poplar lined country roads, rare steaks with garlic bread and crisp white Sancere. But never give up the task of getting to own what is undoubtably the best car in the world. Sorry if the spellings not up to snuff but I've been in the pub all afternoon

Inspiring text and pictures
If you want a guide to the history of the Citroen DS in words and pictures then this is the one. It definitely isn't a technical manual but I still keep a copy in my workshop as the photographs themselves can be invaluable reference. It doesn't cover the area of 'specials' such as racing Ds and the odd prototypes that were developed but that is a minor grumble.I use it regularly to explain to people why the DS is so special.
