This is Book One,of a Two Book Series,about the life & times,of the late/great Stevie Ray Vaughan.It's a real collector's item.
As the first reviewer (J.Mark Fewell, from Dallas), pointed out, the author of this book, has already, written previous books, about Stevie Ray Vaughan. Now, this "Book #1", "Day by Day, Night, After Night, His Early Years", along with the soon to be released, "Book #2", "Stevie Ray Vaughan, "His Last Years", is suppose to be the "Ultimate", 2 book, series about the life and times, of the late/great, blues guitarist, and singer, Stevie Ray Vaughan. This "Book #1", is very detailed, and is very well illustrated. "Book #1 covers SRV's life, up until his first commercial release. So it covers SRV's life from birth in 1954, thru 1982. The author, must have been an "insider", to have had access, to the illustrations, and the information, covered in this book. There is even a copy of SRV's Birth Certificate. This 2 Book, series, is going to be the ultimate, 2 Book Collector's series, for serious, Stevie Ray Vaughan fans. I read about this book, in a music magazine, and about how it along with "Book #2, will definitely be an SRV genuine, "collector's item". This 2 book series on SRV, has been recogized in the music industry as being, "the most detailed account of any musician ever". If you like SRV, then you'll definitely, enjoy this book, and the second book to follow. Thanks!!!P.S. More information about the author: Craig Hopkins. He is a very devoted Stevie Ray Vaughan fan, and is recognized as the world's foremost, renown scholar on Stevie Ray Vaughan. He has written previous books about SRV. He has been a trial lawyer, and has even sucessfully tried cases before the U.S. Supreme Court. He has been recognized by the Blues Foundation, by being awarded the "Keeping the Blues Alive", award for Blues Literature. He is based in Texas. He has an enormous music memorabilia collection, which includes many of SRV's items. He plans to use his vast amount of music memorabilia to start a museum soon. Thanks again!!!!

Great book--almost like a journal/photo album of SRV!
There have already been at least a couple of very good biographies written about Stevie Ray Vaughan, and this particular book provides very complementary additional insight and info into the late great guitarist. There is not very much overlap of information compared to previous books...many of the people interviewed for this book were not quoted in the other SRV biographies I have read. Lots of previously unseen photos, and plenty of first-hand stories about how SRV started out as a budding guitarist in Texas in the late 60's and 70's. I find that this part of his life (pre-1983) is most interesting, since much of his life after he became a star is more "public knowledge" already, obviously. Since SRV didn't become famous until he was nearly 30 years old, most fans probably don't consider him a former "teenage prodigy" like Kenny Wayne Shepherd or Jonny Lang. However, this book reveals that he was just that...a teenage guitar monster dropping jaws right and left...he just didn't have the widespread exposure of KWS or Lang, obviously, back in the late 60's in Dallas.Anyway, an INDISPENSABLE book for all SRV fans so they can see that Stevie wasn't always the majestic guitar god in fancy garb and hat...he did indeed pay his dues! :-)

This book isn't what you think - it's better.
What you might not realize when you view this product on Amazon is that it is a super high quality, hardcover coffee-table book. It is filled with photos, and chronicles SRV's life LITERALLY day by day, night after night. I was expecting the equivalent of Hammer of the Gods (Led Zep) or Excuse Me While I Kiss the Sky (Jimi) - a sensationalized, probably most fictional account of a rock star's rise and fall, and in Stevie's case, rise. This book is much more detailed, and is a lot closer to something like Deep Blues or Really the Blues - close to a textbook on a particular subject. Mr. Hopkins was a trial lawyer, as am I. If these books are indicative of his attention to detail and obsession with the facts, I am glad I never had a case against him.

Day by Day is written more like a reference book and it is so heavy there ...
I didn't realize this book would be so large; it is a heavy, coffee table type book. I preferred the paperback, Caught in the Crossfire, which is a smaller paperback written in a novel style. Day by Day is written more like a reference book and it is so heavy there is no comfortable way to read it unless you have a book stand.

Worth Every Penny
Absolutely stunning! Full of pictures and details, WOW I am so happy to own this! It didn't realize it was a large, hard back, coffee table stunner when I ordered it. I wondered why it was more expensive than other books, but there's not a lot of books on the market so I took a chance and ordered. BEST CHOICE EVER! Thank you again for such incredible work, Craig!

Actually its a historical documentary
Sooo much documentation, photos, and actual dated timelines. Chronologically formatted, It transports you to the date and time as you read it. You get interviews from band mates at the time and place, as you read. Its more of a textbook on Stevie than a biography of sorts, so its very interesting . Engulfs the reader.

ULTIMATE STEVIE RAY VAUGHAN HISTORY, PART 1
If you're already a fan of Stevie Ray Vaughan, you may have heard of this book from the author's website. Previously published as a limited edition in the USA at a fairly high price ($75 plus shipping), it has now been split into 2 volumes at a much more reasonable price. Compared to the author's previous book (The Essential SRV), this is a completely new work and well worth buying, even if you have "The Essential" (as I have) or "The SRV Anthology".Basically this is the complete SRV story, more in the form of a diary with quotations from 100s of interviews rather than a straightforward biography, with tons of previously unpublished photos (including many from SRV's own family collections), posters, tickets and other memorabilia. It's written from a purely factual angle, so rather than let the author's opinion get in the way (as is the case with many biographies) interviews or quotes are reproduced which I think makes for a much better book. It's really on a par with Mark Lewisohn's Complete Beatles Chronicle for it's detail and quality. SRV has not exactly been the most written about musician so a book of this quality is very welcome. Easily the best book ever on SRV and a fine tribute to a much missed musician. Can't wait for volume 2! (1983-1990)
