Assessment Center Strategy and Tactics

The Wizard of the Fire Service
Not only do I have the privilege of seeing the legendary Deputy Chief Terpak when he's leaving in the morning from his tour, I've also attended many of his classes. But, this book is the most amazing, jam packed book full of knowledge and insight for a fire officer's oral presentation and overall skill assessment. I always call DC Terpak a wizard, because until you have a clue of what the fire dept. is about, his words will fly right by you, not understanding them. But this book covers all aspects of the oral, with both basic, complex tactics, and everything in between fireground safety in an easy to read format. I hope to one day possess a fraction of the knowledge about the fire service as Deputy Chief Terpak.Pat EgbertJersey City FD

Get Chief Terpak's Other Book Instead
I was into this book and others for the promotional assessment center my department had for the rank of Lt. They used Morris and McDaniel. Although this book is okay, it is a hindrance to anyone with any field experience as an officer. Do not waste your time with this book. If you have field experience, this book will only cause you to change your approach to scenarios and get bogged down in accronyms. If you want a book to help you prepare for an assessment center with or without field experience, then get Chief Terpak's other book, Fireground Operational Guides. Had I stuck with that book, I would have been far more successful than trying to modify my approach to suit the test. Most important advice for assessment centers: remember your training and experience, be yourself, and be confident. Don't try to beat the test and just address the scenario.

Great book!
I came out at the top of the list for my promotional test using this book and Chief Freddy's online prep. I thought this book was great.

Good review and orientation to the assessment process
This book provides a good review of S & T for a plethora of scenarios. Chief Terpak does a good job of bridging the scenarios with the assessment environment by describing orientation, technique, and even some style points.

Did not help.
This book has a lot of good information in it. However, I wasted my money on it. It in no way helped me on my assessment. Make sure you know what the assessors are looking for before buying. Tactics was a very small fraction of my assessment center.

Very good book for FIRE TACTICAL scenario thinking
Very happy I purchased this book. I am preparing for an upcoming assessment center and wanted to really strengthen my mind-set when it came to fire tactical scenarios. This book is excellent for that. Broken down into different type of structure fires (strip mall, high rise, residential, etc) and what strategies to employ on scene. Very informative, NOT too thick....nice and condensed info.

Very Valuable Book
This book was fantastic. It will help anyone going for a promotion. This book gives you a terrific diagram to attack the Assesment Center. You need to bring your own fireground knowledge in, but this book helps you put it in order. I would highly recommend it, the book will pay for itself in a very short time.
