Spiritual, Philosophical, & Life Enriching
Priest and writer Joseph F. Girzone always has something to say that's worth saying. A Portrait of Jesus is no exception. We find Girzone's philosophy of spiritual life and his motivation for living it carefully provided in the contents of this book. Different from his other books, this is not a novel that entertains while teaching, but a book about passion for the way Christ lived, breathed, and walked. Caring for others with Christ-love is both its theme and its challenge. In many respects, for the serious Christian, this is an uncomfortable read. People get set in their ways, rigid in their beliefs, and arrogant in their opinions. Girzone draws attention to these inconsistencies in spiritual thought and action. Wrong attitudes are confronted. Right attitudes are presented. I appreciate its message though the writing is a bit dry in places. The insights gained are worth the read.

Inspirational, uplifting, and devine
I enjoyed "A Portrait of Jesus" very much and would like to recommend it to anyone who likes to get to know Jesus in all His glory, deity, and humbleness. I have read all of Joseph Girzone books many times and I am saddened that there aren't any more to read. He was such a inspirational, eloquent and knowledgeable writer. And he has a way of lifting my spirits! Thank you for making it possible to purchase these divine books. I will order some more for my friends soon so I can share these beautiful stories with them.

A Portrait of Jesus
I have all the books in the "Joshua" series written by Fr. Girzone. What wonderful insight into what it would be like if Jesus (Joshua) were to walk among us today. Always an easy read, his books draw us into the very human nature of Jesus and leave us wanting more. These are books that can be read over and over and still be interesting as you will discover some new insight or image that you missed before. These books gave me a deepened appreciation of the Gospels, the life of Jesus and the challenges that we face in today's world. Certainly fits the phrase, "What would Jesus do?"

Simple, eloquent -- a Portrait of Jesus
If you are interested in the Teachings of Jesus and acquiring a deeper and more personal understanding of what He was like, how he lived ... this is a must read. An exquisite writing, heartfelt and touching. Girzone writes the most simple, but eloquent books about Jesus, His life, and His teachings. This is a book to read over and over. I love every book I've ever read by Joseph Girzone (and I've read most of them) -- but this is my favorite.

This is the Jesus I never knew.
Girzone captures Christ's persona. I found myself asking lots of questions of who I thought Christ was--and found Girzone answering them in a way I never expected. Shedding light on Christ's humanity and well as his divinity by shedding insight to his story, as found in the Gospel, Girzone creates a vivid picture of a truely caring man who relished his role as counselor, teacher, healer, friend and savior. If you want to know Jesus better and more personally, read this book. Have a Bible near by, you may wish to look up stories as Girzone mentions them. I know it was worth my time and effort and I highly recommend this book.

Must Read
I purchased this for a friend because I knew that she'd appreciate it. This book gives us a profound view of Jesus based on what the Bible doesn't say. Father Girzone looks at Jesus in the Bible and expands our understanding. Anyone wanting to know Jesus on a more personal level should read this book.
