Best known for boat shoes that have logged more miles of open ocean than any other brand, the Sperry Top-Sider story began on a raw winter day in New England. When avid sailor and hobbyist inventor Paul Sperry let his dog Prince out for his daily exercise, he noticed that the cocker spaniel was remarkably stable, even at a full run on the snow covered, icy crust. Paul raced back to his laboratory to begin working. Using pieces of rubber, a razor blade, and an ordinary sneaker, Paul had soon pieced together the prototype of the world's first boat shoe. Subsequent designs yielded the original Sperry Top-Sider now known as the Authentic Original. Since 1935, Sperry Top-Sider has been the leading brand of footwear for those who love the water. From its introduction of the world's first siped rubber outsole for non-marking traction, to its advanced technical fabrication to combat the elements, Sperry Top-Sider remains the vanguard of high-performance amphibious footwear. Available around the globe in fine independent, marine, and department stores, Sperry Top-Sider is the official footwear of the U.S. Sailing Team, Zodiac Academy, the World Billfish Series, and the Shimano Fishing Tour.

Size matters
This is a very narrow shoe. I read through all the reviews to determine what size to order. I am between a 91/2 and a 10. I consistently read go for the smaller size - and because I typically wear these styled shoes sans socks, I did. Man, I had to cram my foot into these. I honestly think a ten wouldn't have been much better. Plenty of length, but unless you have a very narrow foot, these will not fit. The leather is also very stiff - wouldn't reconmend. Personally, I like a spacious shoe that allows me to wiggle my toes. My pinky toe was bloodied by being crammed into these. Sent them back.

Whatta Pair!
I've been looking for what they call "driving shoes" for quite some time. We moved in December and still haven't located the carton where my original pair was packed; I know that wearing only sneakers is bad for my feet. I finally broke down and bought these and I am glad that I did.The insole is cushioned for comfort, and they have a substantial, but not clumsy, sole for excellent support. I've worn them all day and felt as comfortable as wearing a pair of running shoes, but also felt that I've had much more substantial support. My father was a foot surgeon and I learned from him not to wear sneakers exclusively; that it is important to have good support for your feet, as they're the foundation of the body. If the feet start to suffer, that will radiate upwards and make a day on your feet feel much longer. These shoes are comfortable, provide the right amount of support, and look good doing it!

Returns are NOT promptly processed
These shoes were purchased because I have a pair already and they were excellent - however this pair was extremely stiff and near iron in feel as opposed to the near slipper of the original. So, I returned them have a confirmation of said return but have not yet been given a refund - 5 days later!

Great shoe overall
I have the exact same shoes in brown as well and I love those shoes. This particular Sperry has a cushioned in sole as opposed to some of their other shoes which can be quite stiff. This shoe looks great slacks, casual khakis or nice jeans. I would normally rate this shoe 5 stars, my brown pair certainly would get that. However the shoe that I received seemed to have a small defect with the stitching inside one of the shoes where it rubs against the outside of my left foot. None of my other Sperry's have done this, so this seems like an isolated problem. A little creative padding has fixed the problem, but unfortunately I didn't start wearing the shoe until several weeks after purchase to figure out that problem, otherwise I would have exchanged it for another pair of the same style and color.

Great casual dress shoe for the price!
I looked at these almost a year ago but didn't purchase. Instead I went with some Steve Madden loafers in a similar style. The Madden's are still doing well, but they are not exactly what I would call comfortable. They did however fit true to size. I am almost an exact size 10 in men's if you measure the inches toe to heel and convert to US sizing. The Sperry's, on the other hand, fit rather large. I ended up going with a size 9.5 men's. The leather stretched out after a couple of wears and now they are essentially perfect. I bought them in the tan, black, and amaretto colors to wear with jeans, shorts, and khakis. The tan and black are made of an exceptionally soft leather with a slight texture to it. My girlfriend especially likes the tan with pretty much anything. She has good taste in clothing and keeps up with fashion so I take her word for it when it comes to clothes; I'm usually more of a t-shirt and jeans guy. The amaretto are made with more of a patent leather that has a bit more gloss and a smoother finish. They aren't as soft and pliable as the other two, but I love the color. They are still very comfortable. The amaretto fit slightly larger than the other two as well. I have never owned Sperry's; I've never really liked how I look in boat shoes, but these are fantastic. I now can completely see why so many people swear by the brand. I could wear them all day every day without complaint, and they still look good at the same time. For the price, I think you get more than what you pay for. Definitely recommend; just order several different sizes to ensure proper fit, and keep in mind that they do stretch nearly half a size after wearing a few times. Amazon offers these with free shipping and free returns so you really can't go wrong. You won't be disappointed!

Not as good as its predecessor.
A few notes on this shoe:I love the color and the tread on this shoe. It looks GREAT and is super casual. The leather is very stiff at first (which is OK with me)... and won't stretch out quickly or easily. The tread is actually better then the older model of these shoes which had leather inbetween each 'tread'... which wore out the shoe much more quickly. That being said, the shoe was suprisingly large... leading me to order 3 half-sizes smaller than my normal tennis shoe (I wear a size 10 nike running shoe... am wearing a size 8.5 in this shoe--although it is tight). Additionally, there is no arch support whatsoever in this shoe and I have needed to add my own arch support to even make these comfortable to walk around in.My advice: order a size smaller than your athletic shoe size... and look at additional insole support.

Got a better deal on Amazon
I had these shoes before I only wore them for 3 days before my dog decided she didn't like them and tore them apart. I found the same pair of shoes on Amazon and they were actually cheaper than the price I paid at a retail store in our town so I went ahead and bought them again. They don't do very well if you get them around dirt or spill some kind of juice on them or they will get a stain. They do very well with water but are also very slippery indoors specially on tile floors but is not a huge issue for me. The shoes are very comfortable but don't recommend them if you walk a lot. But overall I would recommend this product.
