Cut off words
Great book but the letters of some words in the book were cut off in the printing process. Still readable with some guesswork but disappointing.

Good
Where it all began…This is the first of the Dragonriders of Pern series, which is arguably one of the most famous epic dragon science fiction/fantasy series out there. This one introduces us to Lessa, who begins the story as a drudge in one of the old dragon holds, and whose life changed when the bronze dragon rider F’lar comes to the hold in search of their future dragon queen’s weyrwoman. We see what happens when the threads begin to fall on Pern, and how Lessa and F’lar rise to the occasion to lead their people in the fight for their lives. This is an exciting science fiction/fantasy tale in the good old fashioned swords and sorcery style. Dragon fans will enjoy the prominent role that the dragons play in the story. The book ends with a “happily for now” type scenario, as the main plot point (the falling of the threads) will be something that happens over decades. An enjoyable and entertaining read in the old style epic science fantasy genre, that will be enjoyed by modern readers just as much as those who read the books years ago.Recommended for traditional fantasy and sci-fi lovers.

Story lacking heart
Kitchen drudge Lessa is not at all what she seems, and her premonitions of danger and hope may change her world. She’s not a lowly drudge at all!Dragons? Yes. A world needing saving? Of course. Romance? Sort of.While I enjoyed the bond between dragons and their riders, the increasing elitism, sexual immorality, and lack of concern about birthing children or nurturing families turned me off.Anne McCaffrey raises traditional questions about time travel and how it might change the present and the past. I don’t think she’s prepared to explore those conundrums much, though.

Fantastic
Anne McCaffrey is the world renowned, Dragon Lady! She awaits us all, now, in Pern, swapping stories with Masterharper Robinton.
