User friendly app design makes building, playing, and learning easy
We own the BuilderBots kit and initially found it daunting to build by the sheer number of parts. Fortunately, the JIMU app has a very impressive user interface that makes navigating, building, coding, and play easy for kids and adults alike. Without the app's 3D building assisted functionality, it would have taken me days instead of hours to build. Don't get me wrong, it is still challenging to build, but as a STEM toy, I would be disappointed if it didn't challenge my daughter (and me). The Unicornbot Kit is no exception and she was super excited to build a purple unicorn, her two favorite things. You can simply use the JIMU app to control the bot the same as you would a traditional remote control "car" via Bluetooth, but where it shines (as a STEM toy) is the coding aspect. Coding is complex, but the JIMU app breaks it down to simple commands. It also helps that they provide some pre-program actions that is already coded that you can go in and modify. If you are in need of further assistance with coding, you can use Blockly (the question mark icon) to get an explanation of commands/action trigger types.Generally speaking, this is one of the more advance STEM toys my daughter owns and I would recommend going through the lessons under the Learn section of the JIMU app if this is your first bot. Kudos to UBTECH for developing the UnicornBot kit. Although my daughter enjoys playing with her BuildBots kit, she overwhelming loves her UnicornBot kit and plays with it more often. Thanks!

Engaging STEM activity that keeps on teaching
This was my 8 yr old daughter's Christmas gift. It took a little over 8 hours to put together (us working with the app instructions over multiple days) The instructions on the app are great. We both were impressed with the 3D pictures that we could move around to make more sense. The only drawback was that whenever the app closed we had to find out place again in the instructions. In other words it didn't hold out place.Once we finished assembling it she immediately took to operating it and having it dance around the room. She has shown it off to many guests. She is currently content to use the pre coded moves, but I am looking forward to her making her own moves with the codes. If you do not pick it up just right it will fall apart, but goes back together pretty easily. My daughter drove it off a table by accident and was able to reassemble it without needing the instructions. Overall it was well worth the money spent.

Well made quality item / VERY confusing programming !
Very cool item and concept. Goes together well. Fun and interesting to assemble though it definitely requires someone probably 10 yr old - adult to do so. My only complaint is the controls and programming, etc. It is very confusing. The app definitely needs more information and help in doing so. I’m still confused ! Haven’t really taken a lot of time to work on it. It’s gonna take awhile and a lot of patience.

Money Well Spent!
We bought the Unicornbot for my 12 year old daughter for Christmas. She is at an age where she has phased out of "toys." This robot is so much more than a toy and it immediately captured her attention! First of all the design is so cool. It is modern and sleek yet still fun to look at. She loved building the unicornbot and following the extremely detailed 3D images in the app but the coding and programing part is what blew her ( and myself ) away! She would spend hours exploring the features and abilities of this product. I loved seeing her so engaged and knowing that she was learning at the same time. I have recommended this item over and over again to friends looking for a unique gift for their kids!

Innovative, educational, cool and unique STEM robot for girls ages 8-12!
I have to say that the UnicoronBot is the coolest thing I have ever bought my twin girls age 10!They loved the building aspect of the robot as there is an app that guides them so they could do it independently and it gave them a great sense of accomplishment. And the coding of the robot was something they have never done or seen before and loved it. They even told their science and computer teacher about it.I struggled before to get them interested in STEM, as I gotten them a STEM coding toy before, but they weren’t interested. Finally I feel like this has motivated them in a positive way towards building and coding. It would be an amazing holiday gift and something they can do over winter break.

Daughter in tears with defective servo after days of building
Bought this for my daughter and she was so excited. She is 10. She spent a few days building this carefully piece by piece. For the wires she had me do that part (I am a electrical engineer). Everything was carefully put together (instructions were great). Then we charged the unicorn until she was solid green. My daughter was jumping up/down in excitment. Then, boom! Servo 1 error. I triple checked everything - still no luck. I took all wires off and carefully reconnected, same error. Rebooted, updated the firmware, and in the end it's a piece of freaking junk, leaving my daughter in tears!! DON"T BUY this for your kid!! It was her first STEM project and total failure - so not motivating to do robotics... Going to try to return for a FULL Refund - don't buy this unless you want a daughter with eyes filled of tears!

Great Idea, but some flaws
My daughter really likes the coding aspect of this, but there are some issues. This thing breaks apart if you look at it wrong. Whenever she picks it up, a part falls off. Whenever the unicorn hits a wall or couch, the head falls off. It is VERY fragile. It is pretty simple to put it back together but gets annoying fast. The Android version of the App won't let us use sensors, which it advertised that it had. Also, the app sometimes gives you an error written in Chinese so its hard to tell what is wrong. The Bluetooth frequently becomes disconnected. This would have been a better product if it had come already assembled and sturdy. All that being said my daughter still loves it and is challenged by trying different code to make it do all sorts of things. They have a learning section where she can practice new ideas and get better at it.
