Worth looking at
I have the Ultra II. Basically the same guitar as the III (chambered body, regular plus the ultramag pickups. Decent tuners) Minus the gimmicky usb option you get on the III, which I did not care about. The headstock is nicer shape than the low-end Epis.Epi has 3 lines of guitars with the chambered body, I think they only sell the Ultra III and the Ultra Pro now, the latter with updated pickups). The ultra II can still be had used, for relatively little money. I think that is a fantastic value. My guitar did not have any neck, fretting or assembly issues. The main reason to get this guitar is the chambered design, which solves a big drawback of the LesPaul style guitars, that they are unpleasantly heavy. The hollowed out body solves this nicely, and it also alters the sound a bit, IMO in a good way.The difference is subtle, it shifts the tone a bit towards a thinline archtop sound. You could say it sounds a bit more like an Epi Sheraton.Standard 24 3/4 scale, and the typical fat D shaped neck cross section.Reading the other reviews, Epi's QA seems to be a bit of a hit or miss. If you buy one unseen, you can always sent it back if the neck proves to be poorly done and un-tamable. The tuners are ugly, looks like Gotoh or Grover style, with butterbean shaped buttons. On this style guitar, keystone style buttons would be what the doctor prescribed. There are 2 possible updates: either swap just the buttons ($30) or swap out the entire tuner set.($90-ish for Schallers)Schaller makes a nice cast (not stamped) keystone set, with jade colored plastic buttons, that is a very nice stylish replacement. If you can get a guitar without any neck issues, the tuners and the magnetic pickups are worth replacing, and then you have something that is as good as an expensive Gibson, where the chambered option is only available on their high end models.

Versatile Guitar At A Great Price
I've had the Epiphone Les Paul Ultra-III guitar for about six weeks and I'm still getting comfortable with it. Due to the holidays, I haven't been able to play as much as I'd like, maybe about five or six times for about a total of twelve hours. First and foremost, it's a beautiful guitar. I have the cherry, which Internet and/or magazine photos don't do it justice. I am into tech so I thought it would be great to own a guitar that I can plug directly into a computer. It has not disappointed. I'm usually a Microsoft Windows user, we have a few throughout the house. Unfortunately I think to really get your money's worth you need an Apple computer. I didn't have much luck with the Windows computers (one has an i5 processor) and I was aware that there would probably be latency issues, but I was still hoping for better results. However when I plugged it into my iMac combined with the recent version of Garageband, (which can now be bought for $5.99. Yes that's only $5.99) I couldn't have been happier. With well over twenty-five different amps and almost an equal number of effects and 32 tracks, I will be busy for years, playing and experimenting. As for the strengths of the guitar: the action is wonderful, the sustain is more than adequate, the pickups give you a wealth of options, including an additional acoustic pickup which sits at the end of the neck, additionally there is a built in tuner, which is a wonderful feature for quickly changing to alternate tunings. So far I have been very happy with my purchase and will edit this review as time passes. I think if you have a budget and want a lot of great features on a guitar that plays nicely and offers many different tones and moods, you can't go wrong.

Super Gitarre
