This is an Awesome Collection Worth Getting!
Never really payed attention to the "man behind the art" when it came to James Jean. BUT I had seen his work and though it was unique and compelling. Further exploration led me to the Fables graphic novel series and the collection of Jean's cover art in his Fables Covers "art of' book. At the same time I encountered Rebus. Great book! It offered a deeper examination of Jean's earlier works as well as more contemporary offerings all of which are an incredible. Yes, a few of his more graphic pieces are a bit tough or challenging, but in terms of quality of the work, design technique and Jeans considerable skill at creative exploration and presentation, I have to say this book is a classic. Like "Fables Covers," this is a huge volume. You will definitely get your money's work of James Jeans art pieces! Paper quality is great and the red page edging is frankly pretty cool. Colors are vivid and the artworks themselves are generally large enough to explore in significant detail.Bottom line: This is an awesome work. Great for artist inspiration or simply casual exploration. On that note, I'd recommend getting both Rebus as well as Fables Covers if you want a comprehensive "one two" punch of James Jean art!

Extremely good value, lots of top notch art, nice book
Great book CHOC full of varied, high quality illustrations. Full bleed pages, hardcover, all-edge guilt pages (all three exterior edges of the book are coated in shiny red metallic covering). Literally any page in this book has a wonderful piece of art on it. I was surprised by the consistency and quality of the artwork. There are some adult/erotic themed images that any adult should be fine viewing, but do note that if you are uncomfortable with sexual themes you might get a little bashful on only a handful of pages. I'd still give it to my mom to thumb through without being embarrassed.I have to reiterate that the art is top notch. I have about 40 fine art books and this is a standout in the sheer number of quality, highly varied executions. At $31 (5/3/15) for this hardcover book, it is without a doubt something I'd recommend to anyone interested in any kind of art book. The value is simply unmatched.

There's plenty of beautiful illustrations in here
Bought this out of convenience of quick shipping but should have gotten it off the man himself at his website to make sure the money gets to him. There's plenty of beautiful illustrations in here, but at least half the images in here are full two page spread with the center practically cut out due to the binding! I'd honestly have preferred there weren't in there at all since its rather maddening. Overall it's still a beautifully made book with plenty of inspiration within.

Wonderful illustrations, terrible formatting
To start, I have all of the work published by James Jean to date, except for Process Recess 2. I was greatly looking forward to this book, and foolishly ordered it on Amazon because they had it restocked before his website did, where I could have acquired a signed copy. If you would like your book signed, buy it from his website.I was most looking forward to the illustrations Jean did for Prada, but was highly irritated by their presentation in this book. I am aware they are large and sprawling, but I figured it would turn into a large pullout (like Rift). Instead, it was hacked to pieces and put onto pages, where the flow was completely lost. In other illustrations the binding made it impossible to view the whole of the image, and in one of the Prada pictures in particular there is a figure sitting on a flower and the figure is 50% lost due to the binding. In all, it is a wonderful collection of his work, but it could have done with 35% of them pullouts, at least, if you wanted to fully appreciate the composition.

Great detail and quality book
This book was to my expectations, there is plenty of art from james jean in here which really makes it worth buying. The book is very sturdy, hard cover has a uv spot on the title, with red foil painted edges on each page which makes it look great! I didn't like how the book came in without a plastic wrap container like most new books come in, and with just bubble wrap which is can damage the corners of the book. Luckily mine came in great with a few finger smudges but thats alright. I recommend this book to people who like james jean's art its just great!

Great artbook!
I love this artbook since it collects the many works of James Jean! I first learned about his art from Fables and then became interested in his studio work afterwards. I think it wouldn't be complete without the Fables Covers artbook, since the ethereal characters were the ones that connected to me about his artwork in the first place! The book is very sturdy and the pages have a golden edge that make it perfect! A great present for anybody who likes art!!!

Simply Amazing.
On any given day, I can pick up this book and become lost in Jean's blended world of comic books and fine art. Having been a fan of his sketches The Hallowed Seam (Process Recess, Vol. 3) , I decided to pick this one up as well - I'm glad I did.The boldness of his colors and the complexities of the compositions makes this a splendid book for any art enthusiast.

Exquisite
The media could not be loaded. Rebus is an exquisite book. Large format, trimmed pages with red edges, 240 pages thick.Rebus is a collection of James Jean's paintings, personal and commercial, from 2001 to 2011. In 2001, he was 21 and just graduated from art school. This book is very impressive considering how much he has achieved over the last 10 years. Some of his work which has appeared in other publications are now also collected here, with the exception of his work for Fables and his sketches. There aren't much duplication. There are work from his Kindling exhibition. Some of them have appeared in the similarly titled poster-book Kindling. Then there are his personal works, commissioned work from Prada, the panorama illustrations that appeared in the accordion book Rift, some you might have seen on his website, some are published in the book for the first time. The illustrations are beautiful, haunting and inspiring at the same time. It's surrealism that's uniquely James Jean. These images are best seen than described. There are also some photos from his exhibition.I only have one minor quibble and that's regarding the presentation of his panorama illustrations that span 8 pages. They aren't printed as gatefold pages which is perhaps the most appropriate way to present them, and possibly the best way they should be seen.Rebus is an enthralling collection. Highly recommended for any James Jean fan.(There are more pictures of the book on my blog. Just visit my Amazon profile for the link.)

Perfect introduction
Beautiful book with vibrant pictures of a wonderfully large selection of his work. Also the small amount of writing within is by James jean and very insightful and helps understand his mind and work a lot better

A beautiful collection of beautiful art
A beautiful collection of beautiful art. It features 254 pages of James Jean's amazing, vibrantly coloured surreal art in a book designed by the man himself. Everything from sketches to final artworks are shown spanning from 2001 to 2011. This is all wrapped in a nice matte finished hard cover, with splashes of spot UV and red foil on the page edges, a work of art in itself. I think this is a must for any James Jean fan or art lover in general. Oh and the price is fantastic for what it is.

Amazing book - Rebus by James Jean
Words cannot describe the quality of artwork you can find inside. James Jean is known for his eclectic mixture of styles (think romantism on acid)James Jean promoting his book[...]Must buy.

It is better than i thought.
I didn't buy fables cover art book because it is out of print. Then i find this one. I don't really like the cover, but the book is much better than I thought. The style is very Japanese. Make me thinking about Japanese horror movie.
