I have purchased several Taschen books and now consider them to be a useful resource, as useful as having an old mentor. Everything they put out is thoughtfully presented, beautifully displayed, well researched.Though you can find Batterham's World of Ornament elsewhere for much less money, you won't be disappointed by this volume, the layout, the size. It is a big purchase that feels like it was worth it. It is in display in my home.

Saw it at the museum store for nearly full price.....leafed thru it checked to see if it was at Amazon and had to have it...Great book for art or design history...mbb

This item is a wonderful world history of artistic design over many centuries. A great book to have if you are looking for a different sources of inspiration in art, design, or whatever interests you. Arrived quickly and in perfection condition.

Well made books with good resolution pictures

This is a very thorough collection of patterns and ornamental designs and includes descriptions for every image. The illustrations are just beautiful. A great beginning for anyone interested in this subject.

Habe diese Bücher-Serie gekauft, da ich sie für meinen Beruf sehr oft gebrauchen kann. Die Bücher bieten einen umfassenden Überblick über Ornamente von sämtlichen Epochen und Ländern. Alles auf einmal kann man ja sowieso nicht verarbeiten- da muss man sich schön viel Zeit nehmen um alles zu sehen und auf sich einwirken zu lassen. Außerdem gibt es zu jeden Bild eine kleine Beschreibung in Deutsch, Englisch und Französisch, was wirklich ein tolles Zusatzfeature ist. Total interessant und nützlich! Um den Preis absolut lohnenswert!

Um apanhado geral da história dos ornamentos.A qualidade da impressão não se discute. A Taschen capricha, e muito, nestas coleções especiais.As capas são lindas.A caixa também é rígida e protege bem os livros.Uma ótima aquisição.

As a designer, I was really excited about the royalty free image library this book comes with.HOWEVER, it turns out that the book does not come with an image CD, but instead provides a temporary access code to the Taschen website. Once in the website, there are over 500 pages of images; each pages has approximately 8 images on it. Since you can only download one image at a time, it's a real pain. If each image took 30 seconds to download it would take 35 hours of straight downloading to catalog the entire book.HOWEVER, if you are tec savy, you can download a firefox plug in called "DownloadThemAll!" to download the images in a couple of hours.I would not recommend this book as a design resource to anyone who isn't willing to fiddle with plugins to collect the images.As a reference book, it is well written and informative.
