Don't suggest this item for hardwoods.
Pros... maneuverability, light weight, LOVE LOVE THE *INSTANT* steam!Compact, perfect for using for smaller areas, and storage.Cons: continuous steam w no option to toggle steam as needed/pause steam as needed without turning unit off entirely, not a huge issue as heats steam literally instantly, just odd no control button in handle. The continuous steam does produce a bit of water left behind, not what you really expect w a steam cleaner. 1St time I've had a unit do this. I have tile in my kitchen and bath, so I can live with air drying now, but this would certainly be damaging for hardwoods if not immediately dried by some secondary manner.. Dry mopped? An unnecc. Step for steam cleaning really. For me, this would be a return if I still had hardwoods thru out.The "pads" that are included, are EXCEPTIONALLY THIN LIGHTWEIGHT MATERIAL, unlikely to survive heavy use or longer than a month of light use. ORDER EXTRA thicker/shaggy absorbent pads at purchase order, at a much lower cost here than store as well.Overall, it fits my limited use well. Happy w item.I do not suggest this item for hardwoods.

Okay, but some big caveats.
I bought this about nine months ago, to replace an earlier model of the same Dirt Devil steamer, which I loved.I will say that this steamer gets the job done. It steams and cleans and my floors look good. I like the detachable, hand-held steamer (which my last one didn't have) for doing small spaces or cleaning grout. Very handy. The steamer itself, though, is a big step down from its predecessor. It's made of thinner, cheaper plastic that feels like it will break at any moment. The handle length isn't adjustable and the steam head is about 30% smaller than the one I had before. The worst part, though, is that the steam head as a sort of bump on it where one of the steam nozzles is (see photo). That bump causes a lot of friction when mopping and immediately tore holes in the very cheap, very thin mopping pads provided (see photo). I have tile throughout my house, so I don't worry about scratches. But if you have hardwood floors, please be very, very cautious if you purchase this. The mopping pads never come clean, either. The picture of the one with the hole in it is a "clean" pad, fresh out of the wash. Blech. All these issues combined are causing the efficacy of this mop to dwindle. It's still plugging along, but I don't see myself using it much longer. If Dirt Devil doesn't put some more effort into their products, I see myself buying a different brand.

Great for small spaces!
I live in a small apartment that is mostly carpet, but I have textured laminate in my kitchen and bath areas. I was struggling to find a product that would get the gunk out of the nooks and crannies, and this is perfect! I've tried all Swiffer products and still found myself on my hands and knees with wet wipes, scraping the crud out with my fingernails. The Dirt Devil Steam Mop jas solved all of my problems! Be warned though, this is ideal for smaller spaces. I would recommend a larger mop with bigger resivoir for larger spaces. I played around with it on my carpet and, with the help of a little spot treatment, it took my nagging dirt stains right out! I will admit, I have yet to find a proper use for the handheld configuration of the mop--it would not be ideal for steaming clothes as the hole the steam comes out of is very small. Only docked one star for that and that I need two refills of water for my small space. Overall, it's great (and cathartic, too!) My floors are so clean, it made my mother cry!

This is an excellent steam mop for your first apartment
This is an excellent steam mop for your first apartment. It is definitely a great buy for the price, however the efficiency is debatable. In my experience, I have used nicer steam mops and you have a trigger to release steam. In this mop, however, you have an on/off switch located closer to the base of the mop. You need to turn it off from time to time during use, so as not to overheat the mop. This is annoying if you dont like bending down a lot, or if you generally like to use your mop in one sitting and not have to take random 2 minute breaks for your mop to cool down enough to keep using.it is really not even that annoying, for the price it is well worth it, but if you have the extra cash to get something more efficient, spend it. PS the only part you can remove to use the steam nozzle is the base of the map, meaning you carry the entire mop when you use the "convenient" spray knob thing.

Dream Steam
I have had this for a while and reviewing now after having the opportunity to use it several times and using all modalities. I LOVE this thing. It's the best steamer I've had. It cleans my hard floors great…they look brand new after cleaning them with this. I have used the concentrated steamer around the sink and in the shower and was amazed. I thought it was clean but I was wrong….this thing got it even cleaner. Today I used the carpet attachment on my sofa and again what I thought was clean wasn't. This is for a million percent going to be a staple in my cleaning routine from now on. I pride myself on a clean home and this tool will make it even cleaner.I do have a caveat for this….the one that it replaced had a vacuum/sweeper mode as well so I could get the bits up with it and then turn the steam on and steam away….that would be a nice feature to have again but the old one didn't have the concentrator or the carpet glide attachment. So, that is a very very minor thing to complain about. And…it's not really a complaint just a "wish". I would buy this again. This unit is not fancy, it's a little light weight steamer that will do the job nicely. Unlike others that you have to use distilled water this one will take tap water with no problems and comes with a little measure cup to pour the water in.If you are like me and plan to use it fairly often you may want to buy a couple extra of the cloth covers as when they get dirty or too wet they just move dirt around as would be expected. Having a couple extra means you can finish all of your steaming at one time and then toss all of them in the wash for the next time you use it.
