The Oxford New Desk Dictionary and Thesaurus: Third Edition

In my opinion, this is the most compact desk dictionary and thesaurus available today. Indeed, it has high number of entries. Since it is light in weight, this book is extremely easy to carry around. Another important fact is that it is very cheap; probably the cheapest dictionary with so many entries. The only downside of it is that the font is really small. But I see it quite clearly, given that I have really bad eyes when my glasses are taken off.

I bought this for my 4th grader which is why the tiny print doesn't bother me. That's why I gave it 4 stars, but that's also why it's so compact making it a good student size. Having the synonyms listed with each entry makes it easier for him to learn the new vocabulary words rather than just memorizing the definitions for a test.

perfect for school

purchased this dictionary for my daughter to take to school. It is light weight so that is a plus.It also has pretty small print (for my aging eyes) My daughter is fine with it.

Got this to gift to a friend in a 'gated community' ... who loved it!! Said it was just the thing .. had every feature a person could hope for in a compact reference of this sort!

This is my second one. I literally wore my first one out from 10 years of constant use. This is an extremely useful, easy to grab, wonderfully sized reference book for spelling, synonyms, and definitions.
