Best Ever!
Really! I JUST received this mat a few days ago and have only used it twice. I will update as to longevity and wear further down the road. I am so HAPPY that I wanted to go ahead and offer my first thoughts though. I have been practicing for (almost) two years now and shopping for a quality mat for nearly six months. I was keeping an eye on three brands in particular, watching customer reviews. Tomuno seemed to lead the pack in customer service AND product quality so I decided to go ahead and try their product. Prior to this I had tried one of the cheap waffle patterned sticky mats. It promptly left chunks of itself all over the gym floor and me in a matter of a few uses. Then I tried a rubber mat but it was so thin (2mm) that it ripped apart rather quickly. Loving the rubber, I chose another rubber mat, from a well known brand, but it was closed cell (Tomuno is open cell) so it was VERY VERY slippery as the sweat just pooled on top. Also it was very thin and would buckle under me. I also want to note that with ALL of these previous mats I had a lot of pain in my knees, wrists, and ankles. I had to carry a towel to cushion my joints and it really interfered with the flow to have to stop and reposition it. Tomuno got the mat to me very quickly (under a week). I had waited six months for a quality mat and I was so excited when it arrived that I used it right out of the box (no pre-cleaning) just a couple hours later at my evening class. The rubber smell was not very strong at all so I didn't have to worry about bothering my classmates. During class I had absolutely no issues with slipping (there are two sides to choose from) or the mat buckling. Oh! And the cushion! I just cannot say enough as to how comfortable this mat is! It is not "squishy" and did not interfere with my balance training. I can only describe it as firm cushion. NO PAIN for my knees and ankles. For me, that was a FIRST ever experience! To lay in extended child's pose or be in tabletop with no pain to my knees, to be in swan with no pain in my ankles. It just made my practice so much better. I want to also RAVE about the awesome customer service. Within a day of my order, the company owner sent an email thanking me for my order and wishing me well with my new mat and he also included care and cleaning instructions. He sent a letter with the mat including all of that information as well. I think the reason I did choose Tomuno is because I noticed that he responded to customer reviews and seemed very personally involved with his customers' experiences with his mats. I highly recommend Tomuno! The mat AND the company. Personalized customer service is such a hard thing to come by. Well done, Tomuno! Thank you!

Best mat I've found
Of the three yoga mats I own; the Tomuno, an Aurorae, and a Manduka Pro; this is by far my favorite.I get sweaty hands and feet and so I do slip some, but I keep a yoga towel nearby to occasionally dry off. I find I slip less when I clean my mat regularly. I use Manduka mat cleaner. Sometimes I put the mat in my tub and scrub it with a wash cloth to get it really clean, however, it takes a long time to dry after being soaked. You'll have to wait a day or two to use it again. I have tried using yoga towels (Yoga rat and a Manduka eQua) to minimize slipping, but I end up having more trouble with the towels bunching up and slipping than with my own slipping. The Manduka is big (and really heavy) and seems like it should be better but I have 3 people who sometimes accompany me to yoga and who borrow my mats. Every one of them (my son, my daughter, and a friend) all prefer the Tomuno mat.Compared to the other two mats, the Tomuno is "softer" and more flexible and provides more padding (it's not thicker than the Manduka but it does provide better cushioning). It is natural rubber so it has an odor. Some people may not like it but I find the smell calming. And it's definitely a nicer smell than the synthetic mats (Manduka and Aurorae) I have.Love this mat. May end up buying more for my yoga buddies so I can use mine. I'm nice and usually let my guests take their pick of my mats.

Still slippery
I really wanted to like this mat. I bought it last year in June.I will start with the smell: oh the smell! I left the mat open for weeks in one of our rooms with the windows open when I wasn't using it. It was awful to enter that room! I tried cleaning it with vinegar and the mixture of both smells was intolerable. Now it's not too bad, although my hands retain some rubber smell and flavor even after washing my hands (so don't eat with your hands after yoga with this mat).I like that it is heavy enough that it is stable but I find it too slippery for me, even in slow classes. I have to keep putting my hands on the floor on downward dog so I don't fall. I tried for several months to walk on it or do other type of exercise to see if very regular use helps, but no. Washed with vinegar and it did not help either. I like the texture of the mat, but doesn't help with the slippage. Anybody has some other trick?

Disappointed.
I used this mat for a year during regular unheated yoga. It was great and I loved how thick the mat was and wasn't slippery at all. I decided to finally deep clean it according to the company's instructions. I washed the mat with the 50\50 vinegar and water mixture. I rinsed it very very well and after drying, huge white marks stained the mat. Next day when I went to yoga class I was slipped all over the mat so I couldn't stay in down dog or warrior pose for more than 20 seconds without re adjusting. Before I washed the mat it was perfect and had great grip. Now I can't even mentally get into my practice since I am so fixed on not slipping everywhere on the mat. I decided maybe I had done something wrong so I washed the mat again with same mixture and made sure I rinsed it out 100%. Now today it is almost fully dry and the white marks are even worse. After spending 75$ on this mat I am very unhappy with it. Who thought cleaning a mat for hygiene sake would make it almost useless. Only get this mat if you don't plan on cleaning it. I will be replacing this mat with one that is not so high maintenance to clean. I have attached photo showing what mat now looks like. I followed the instructions to the exact. Disappointed since I loved this mat so much.
