Harry Potter Instrumental Solos for Strings: Viola, Book & Online Audio/Software (Pop Instrumental Solos Series)

My daughter is 9 and intermediate. This book has actually been very helpful. It is a mix of easy, moderate and difficult so that she can practice, play songs she likes and also get challenged a bit. So far, songs are also matching up quite well - we recognized the theme music right away.

Ranges from very easy to moderately difficult. Very nicely written. Good MP3 CD (not an audio CD so don't try to play it on your stereo). Separate violin part separates from the violin/piano duet part which is very nice. Don't be confused by the "solo" description of this music. For the most part this is not a true "solo" arrangement. I think they are referring to the arrangements for other instruments in the same "String Series" which are compatible as an ensamble or played separately with piano accompaniment. There are measures where the violin rests so I guess you can just skip over them if you play truly "solo." Or arrange something. Or stand there in awkward silence. Your choice. Unfortunately, the music arrived a little permanently bent . . .

My daughter loves playing songs from her favorite movies. We like having the CD with the accompaniment for her to play along with. It's a nice break for her to have some fun pieces to practice!

There is tucked inside the violin section which is not too terribly technical, so earlier students should be able to play, though it's not for beginners. The accompaniment is included as well as a CD. The CD has the piece as well as the accompaniment. The one issue I have is that the solo part, though prominent, is included orchestral accompaniment. It would be nice if it were played with only the piano music. However, this bit, in my estimation as well as my daughter's, can be overlooked. All she wants to hear is the violin part to acquaint herself with the pieces and how they are played by a professional. She uses that as a gauge for her own playing. If that is what you're looking for, then do not hesitate to purchase this. You will not be disappointed.

I was concerned initially because of all the reviews about the CD not working, but got it anyway because my son wanted to play it on his violin. We put the CD in the player and sure enough it did not work...HOWEVER it works on a computer! I put the disc in the CD drive and all the songs and everything came up just fine. All the MP3's are there, you just cannot play it in a regular CD player.

I bought this for my 10 year old son. This is his second year playing the viola and this book is at his level and it has also revived his love of playing the viola, which was starting to dwindle this year. There is a CD that comes with it, but I could only play it on my computer.

Got this for my 10 year old daughter, who's a Harry Potter fan, and she loves it! She's more inspired to practice her violin, as she can try playing the themes from her favorite movie series.

I love this book! I can't stop playing the songs! The "Fireworks" song is a little overwhelming at first but it's easy to get the hang of and it is so much fun to play!

Ich bin ein großer Harry Potter Fan und wollte schon lange die Stücke spielen. Seit ca. 2 Jahren spiele ich Geige und beherrsche die 1. und 3. Lage. Die Stücke empfinde ich meist als gut machbar. Allerdings ist die Unterstützung eines Lehrers hilfreich mit Tipps, welche Finger oder Lage man nutzen sollte und bei Tönen, die man bisher noch nicht gespielt hat. Zum Beispiel habe ich bisher keine Molltonarten gespielt. Mit etwas Geduld gelingt es einem aber sehr gut, die Stücke schön zu spielen.

This is a gift to my 11year-old brother learning the violin who loves Harry Potter. Came brand new, and maybe even cheaper than what I've seen in some music stores? I like the variety of the song collection from the different movies, the accompaniment CD will help him as well! The piano accompaniment also does not seem difficult enough so he could learn it as well. (Or I could join in so we can play together) Can't wait to order myself the same book for Flute so we could play together! It appears to be sold out at the moment.

I bought this for a violin pupil who was becoming slightly jaded with her grade 2 exam preparation. The work and repetition is always necessary for exams, but this book has given her the boost she needed, so that the violin is enjoyable for her again. My only negative comment where this book is concerned is that the piano accompaniment is not detachable from the violin part, so we will have to copy it in order to take it to the piano!
