Rough writing, ink skips. :(
I really wanted to love this, as it got great reviews and several friends also recommended it as a first fountain pen for my 11-year-old. I will say that it does boast a good, solid construction and it is easy to use; however, the ink skips terribly and it does not flow smoothly when writing. (To be clear, I use a Rhodia notebook made just for fountain pens - not just any regular paper). I pulled the pen apart, rinsed out the nib and have been through 2 ink cartridges. The skipping and rough writing just has not improved. I thought the issue was with my daughter, but I have used the pen quite frequently and had the same issues.I do own both a Pelikano Twist and a Lamy Safari pen and don't have any of these issues whatsoever. I think the problem lies with this particular pen. It is a neat idea for those just starting out and I think that if the nib/ink flow were a bit more smooth, this would be a good first pen for kids. Sadly, based on our experience, I can only give it a halfhearted recommendation. If you have a few extra dollars, I'd go with a Safari or a Pelikano Twist.

Excellent for writing. Potentially can beconverted to an eyedropper.
Was sold by Global Trend company and was fulfilled by Amazon. Made in Germany, according to the box and there is a raised word "GERMANY" at the top of the barrel, in small letters. The color of this pen on Amazon looks lighter than in real life. The explanation might be in a way how many companies take pictures of products on a backlit white matte glass in order to eliminate shadows. Well, they eliminate shadows but also make the color of the plastic lighter, since this plastic is partially translucent. As a result, in real life this pen looks less childish than in the online presentation.I love this pen! It is awesome! It does not have an annoying clip like many pens designed for adults. Those clips constantly hook on something and get in my way. And, very often, if they plastic clips they get cracked, brake off and make a nice writing instrument to appear ugly in a matter of one second. You may ask if this pen rolls off from a flat surface (since it is rounded and does not have a clip) or not... Well, it does NOT. The reason to it is the word "Pelikano" on the cap is not just stamped but is raised from the plastic. I love it!The ergonomic grip is comfortable (it is NOT uniformly triangular, all three facets are different) and is rubbery. It is slightly smaller than I would prefer for an adult hand, but I am OK with that. The plastic cap is a snap-on and not a thread-on cap. The cap has a white plastic insert inside in order to minimize the amount of air around the nib in the closed state. The nib is imprinted with "A", but to my eye is the same "Medium" as in Pelikan Twist that has a nib with imprinted "M." Also, without being scientific, to my eye they shape of the feed looks the same. However, I have not tried removing and swapping them. Also, they seem to be producing very similar lines. Some folks are wondering if this pen can be converted to an eyedropper fountain pen. Well, I have not converted it, but it seems to be possible. The barrel has only two small round holes at the top. If one fills them from inside or outside with glue and then adds an O-ring under the thread (with some silicone grease), then logically it should work. Personally I am not rushing with this idea because I would like to experiment with various inks first before committing to a particular ink. But it would be pleasing to see ink moving inside, plus use the pen without a worry that I have to change the cartridge in the field.Speaking about the field... I've tried sketching with this nib and unfortunately the line looks way too uniform! The rounded tip of the nib is producing a uniform rounded line. That uniformity is excellent for writing though. It writes excellently, even on a slippery tracing paper that I've used. And it did not require a lot of pressure during sketching. One aspect to note here. As I see from some reviews, some people perhaps were not patient enough to let the ink to saturate the internal capillary system and saturate the internal compartment with ink. I've experienced that and also got impatient. However, slightly priming the cartridge has helped to speed the process up. As a trade off, you will be able to write for quite a while even after the cartridge is empty or is removed. I was SURPRISED about how long I could use it for after removing the cartridge!

Great for young and old users. A bit stiffer nib than their other student pen offerings.
A bit scratcher than the other student models but has a thinner line. The nib is a bit stiffer than the other student models. The finger placement grips are very comfortable and help me keep the pen from rotating in my hand, thus keeping the nib at the correct angle for writing. This is meant to be a pen for primary school students just learning to write with a fountain pen (moving from just a pencil) but it is also extremely comfortable for larger (albeit still small adult hands) hands.1 star down because of the scratchiness of the nib.

Great pen for the price
I ordered my Pelikano Junior Red Fountain Pen from Amazon but it ships and comes from Court House Supplies. The pen was $9.99 and the shipping was free.It arrived today and sat in the mailbox for a little over an hour. It was 13 below zero Fahrenheit at the time. The cartridge, which was inside the pen, had frozen and burst spilling blue ink all over inside the barrel and seeped into the box the pen came in. I took it apart and rinsed it out with running water under the faucet. I've read you are not to wash the nibs with hot water so I used cold and it all came out nice and clean. My intention is to use black ink so I had purchased black ink cartridges which had arrived yesterday in fine condition.I put the pen back together and it works great. The nib is smooth and writes well. The only marking on the nib is the letter A. I've read where it is supposed to be a medium nib, but it is broader than my other pens with medium nibs. On the box, under a German word, it says "Learnwriter Fountain Pen". I think it would make a great pen for those who would like to try using a fountain pen for the first time without spending a whole lot of money. It doesn't have a clip, but then it's more a workhorse type pen than a show horse. The pen is made in Germany.

which is why I love typing. So this was an impulse buy
I bought this because it is "left-handed" lol. As is true for the vast majority of lefties, my handwriting has always, always been awful. This is because whatever we use to write with always gets smeared as we write.... which is why I love typing. So this was an impulse buy... it works as advertised, the angles in the grip force you to hold the pen 'correctly' in your left hand.... but it is still fountain pen ink: fairly watery, slow to dry and easy to smear... but it is fine.
