Great help for people who suffer from IBS
This book is great. It gives you a plan to follow to determine what is causing your IBS. It has a questionnaire to help you determine what type of IBS you have. Until I read this book, I did not know that there were different types of IBS. Most books tell you to add more fiber to your diet. This book addresses what to do if more fiber makes your symptoms worse. It recommends linseed (which is flax seed) as a bulking agent that does not ferment in your digestive track. Taking flax seed in juice has greatly helped my symptoms. It also explains how to do an exclusion diet to see if you have food intolerances and what foods to avoid to reduce gas and bloating. All of this is backed up by research at Professor Hunter's clinic in Cambridge, England.

Because of the advice in this book I no longer have IBS
I was diagnosed with IBS 15 years ago. I have struggled to overcome it for many years. With the advice from this book, I have now been successful. After 6 weeks of implementing Professor Hunter's advice, am symptom-free, and am going on to focus on other aspects of life. This book is written for those of us without extensive medical backgrounds, and is based on decades of research and work by the author. I feel so lucky to have found this book, and as a result,to have regained my health.

fantastic book!
This book far surpassed the knowledge / treatment suggested by multiple GPs. I have since recommended this book to some of them and they have had very positive reactions to the style of the book and science behind it.After multiple diets including gluten free, dairy free, low FOD maps I finally have found something that works through following the recommendations of this book. Cannot recommend it highly enough!

The best IBS Book I have read
This is a great book, written by a consultant at Addenbrooke's hospital with years of experience. I have recently also looked at books written by dieticians who tackle the subject slightly differently.I have been suffering from IBS and Diverticulosis since 1991 and have been given little practical help from GPs or the Coleorectal Consultant I saw, about how to tackle my diet. I only discovered this book April 2018!Over the decades I have pretty much had to work out what I can and can't eat for myself; from writing a food diary to pinpoint my food Intolerances; to using the Bristol Stool Chart and finally to pinpointing the types of foods that trigger and remedy my symptoms by an exclusion diet, which is all mentioned in this book.If I'd had this book at the beginning of my journey towards a more comfortable gut, it would have been faster and so much less fraught. However, as this book was written in 2007, I believe it could, perhaps, do with an update, especially with the increased research into probiotics and gut bacteria. Also the reference to Oats containing the protein Avenin, which is similar to that in wheat, but which unlike wheat, actually only affects a very small number of people and is not a problem for most of those who suffer from Coeliac disease, so doesn't necessarily need to be avoided.Nevertheless, I would recommend this as a first choice for anyone wishing to tackle their Irritable Bowel Syndrome. Finally there is a book that sets out the types of IBS and what is recommended to tackle it. Thank you Professor John Hunter.

Solved my Chronic IBS symptoms
This book has been a godsend. A year ago I was diagnosed with IBS & went on the Low Fodmap diet, with good results, to the extent I got back to reasonably normal eating. Several months later after very stressful events IBS started up again, with awful nausea, discomfort etc. I went back on Low Fodmap diet, this time it didn't work, and symptoms were getting worse. I was getting desperate.By chance I read reviews of this book & ordered it. Completed the questionaire, and went on Low Fiber diet as recommended for my symptoms. The result has been incredible. I'm nearly 3 weeks into first phase & virtually symptom free.

Genuinely the best thing I’ve ever bought.
It’s hard to know where to start to describe what impact this book has had on my life. I suffered from chronic stomach pain and diarrhoea for 20 years. I filled in the questionnaire at the beginning, went to the relevant chapter, followed the guide and put 20 years of misery behind me. Simple things like walking to work, going on dates and eating at restaurants are no longer painful and embarrassing situations. John Hunter is an absolute hero. If he reads this - THANK YOU!

Brilliant book, an absolute must-buy for IBS-ers!
Having read countless books and other written items about IBS, I thought this would be just another unremarkable diatribe (albeit medical) about the illness, but what a surprise I had. Not only is Professor Hunter fully aware of all the quirks and foibles of IBS, he explains and gives solutions for all of them. This was the first time I had read or been told that symptoms can have more than one cause behind them. This explained the reason why, although I had already got control of how many times a day I went to the loo by diet management, I still had problems with gas and wind - the gas had to be dealt with in a completely different way.The book contains questionnaires which allow you to identify which type(s) of IBS you have and then tells you how to manage each one. It's best to read the whole volume cover-to-cover - even the chapters that seem unrelated to your symptoms, as there are frequently small bits of information in these which are lightbulb moments. It's best purchased in book format as charts and tables don't transpose well into tablet/smartphone format. Most highly recommended - especially for GPs and gastroenterologists!

Straight forward easy reading
I have been struggling for last 3years with chronic abdominal pain and constipation and diarrhoea which is controlling my life. This book has given me an understanding of what going on in my guts and an understanding for my partner. And just with a few changes in my diet there is an improvement on words and upwards.
