H. H. Holmes: Original Evil
G**R
H H Holmes invented serial killing and brought commercialism to killing.
I liked the old black and white clips, and was recordings and letter exerts to his victims families he never mailed. I liked that he basically invented most cruel killing methods from gassing to chloroform use and also gasses om guest rooms. He invented efficiency to using bodies for making money by using old fashioned hard work.I didn't like narration too much its great to use a litttle humor and jest to his deeds of around 1 on 1 killings. But I liked nearly all aspects

The editing! Oh god the editing!
The editing of this so-called documentary is poor, at best. The scenes d....r....a...g... out so l...o...n...g that it's nearly unwatchable. I guess the narrator was supposed to stretch out his script to add dramatic flair or to increase the horror but taking five minutes to read three lines of dialogue over the same video loop is ridiculous.I get that actors do what the script and director tell them to do. That being said, the actors had me squirming in my seat in embarrassment for them. I'm really not sure if they were terrible or the script was just that bad, but either way, if I were one of them, I would not put this film on my resume.I suppose the awful music playing on an endless loop was intended to give me anxiety. If so, well done! But I'm sure it wasn't the kind of anxiety the filmmaker intended. The music didn't match the content at all. The gong in the background was super distracting and made me feel I should have been touring Asia rather than watching anything to do with America or serial killers. Although, it did make me contemplate murdering someone prior to stabbing my eardrums out with a knitting needle. So there's that.We watch serial killer and murder documentaries frequently. We're ID channel addicts. So I was expecting some intense content and "viewer discretion is advised" scenes but this didn't hit the mark on any level.Watch at your own risk but I do not recommend... except maybe to aspiring filmmakers as an example of what not to do.

Underwhelming
It felt really hokey to me, especially considering the heinous nature of his crimes. Better to read Devil in the White City. Why has that movie not been made?

Don't waste your time (or money)
Terrible story telling and production. Sorry folks, I just didn't like this one. Fascinating story - but not the way they tell it. Siskel and Ebert would give this two thumbs down.

SLOW and dull
The information is interesting with the history and clips but the narration is so dull. His goal is to disprove any claims that have been made about HH. It is long and drawn out - the connection to Jack the Ripper could have been wrapped up in He was already here in America at the time instead of reviewing that whole case as well. the movie or documentary was done half way in . Need a really good story teller who is engaging to redo, someone not so monotone by 2018 they could have dug deeper and done DNA and actually provided more information. You can find other stories better to watch.

Awful Documentary
This was awful. Stock footage throughout the entirety that had nothing to do with the Holmes. They didn't even bother to dress the actors in time appropriate clothing. It was rushed through from beginning to end just barely brushing on different topics. Major events were completely skipped. It seemed like they just wanted to get through Holmes's story to address the Documentary American Ripper. It completely dismisses everything in that and claims that most of the claims are due to Holmes claiming to be Jack himself in his diary.I do not recall Holmes's Great-Great Grandson claiming that, but I could be wrong. But American Ripper is done much better. That looks like they spent money and actually did some research where this looks like they just sat behind a desk, did a couple Google searches and added some cheesey footage to play in the background.Overall, American Ripper might not prove conclusively that Holmes was the Ripper, but there is good circumstantial evidence. Overall, that was just much more interesting

Beware, it's a DVD-R
Be aware, this is a DVD-R, but I found it a great documentary.
