My Bangladesh Kitchen: Recipes and food memories from a family table

Well-explained recipes, beautiful photos
This book is a double-whammy. It’s a great recipe book, with recipes that are well-explained, plus it includes information about Bangladesh and its culture with beautiful photos. The ingredients are clearly and comprehensively listed and explained. The measurements are given in British/European and American measures, always useful. The recipes look long but, like Delia Smith, they actually aren’t long and complicated, they are simply well-explained and full of hints and tips. In fact, if you like Delia Smith’s style of explanation in recipes, you will like Saira’s too. I definitely recommend this book, for yourself or a beautiful gift.

Surprising quick and easy, even for inexperienced cooks
This is one of those books you could just sit there and look at for hours. The recipes are fun and easy to make, and very forgiving. I usually tweak them to use whatever I have to hand in the kitchen. The only problem is whenever I cook a curry now, it always has to include everything, the meat curry, the vegetable curry, dhal, salad and rice. But this book covers all these. Cooking a curry at home must be so much healthier, and the nutritional information close to the back of the book is very helpful if you are watching your intake. I have also bought a copy for my nephew for university. This book, together with a microwavable rice cooker, a large bag of rice and one of lentils and a spice selection from the Indian cash and carry, will mean he will need to buy very little else to have a tasty and filling meal.

Easy to follow and delicious recipes
This is beautifully presented and written, with lots of tempting recipes. The photos and descriptions really made me want to visit Bangladesh - now added to my bucket list! I found the recipe for lamb with aromatic spices really easy to follow and it was absolutely delicious. This is now my go to curry recipe book!

Masterclass in spices cookery with a very personal touch
This is a superb personal story about Bangladesh, cookery and family. The recipes are delicious and really easy to follow. Saira has taught me how to be confident cooking curries for family and friends. This book is a tour de force guide to spectacular regional dishes. Not to be missed.

Fantastic Food
We were lucky enough to have a meal that Saira cooked for us at a friends 50th. She and her daughter came to where we were staying and cooked for us, taking us through the dishes as they brought to the table. The food itself was incredible and way different to anything you'd see or taste in rsetaurant - vastly superior. If you can re-create those recipes using this book then it will be a revelation

Simply excellent
I own many cook books, but this one has been a revelation. I have cooked more recipes from it than any other individual cook book I own, with the possible exception of Delia Smith's Complete Cookery which I have had for over 30 years. Follow the steps in this one and you will be rewarded with some of the tastiest curries you will ever have had the fortune to consume. This is not a book for a quick 5-minute solution, but the time taken to brown the onions and do all the finishing touches that Saira describes is well worth the wait.

My Bangladesh Kitchen
Poor print quality. Cooking steps are very ambiguous to follow. Regrets in this purchase.
