From the basics of the basics to a good command of the fundamentals.
This handbook achieved its goal as far as taking the newbie, including those little versed in science, through the sometimes pretty complex material that is necessary to understand the concept of GPR prior to operating one in the field. Maths and theory kept to a bare minimum, which is a nice touch for people who are not of the academic sort. Obviously there are more advanced treatises out there and those might be necessary to go to the next level, but there is no doubt that Dan Bigman's book should find its way in a GPR practicioner's book shelves and possibly stay handy in the field alongside other must-have stuff such as measuring tape, flash light, rubber boots and the like.

Great book to fill GPR in gaps in your knowledge
I would say before reading this book watch a few youtube videos on the electromagnetic spectrum, sinusoidal waves, and more general information on radio frequency. Knowing some basics will allow you to get the most out of this book. It is a great resource that we will be keeping around for years.

GPR Basics is great reference guide to learn about the many attributes of Ground Penetrating Radar
GPR Basics is a wonderful guide for any user of Ground Penetrating Radar equipment. Being new to the equipment, I found practical knowledge for understanding the technology, the best methods for calibrating and usage as well as drafting reports to reduce liability. Dr. Bigman has put together an exceptional book, easy for the layman to read and to understand while containing detailed knowledge. As a practising civil engineer in all of the southeast, I highly recommend this book and it will become a staple in my lists of reference guides.

Pages fall out while reading.
First, I have not finished this book so I can't speak to the content. That said, I made it to page 13 before the pages literally started falling out of the book when I turned the page. The print quality is severely lacking. Also, color images would be nice. Hoping to get something out of my first read because its not going to last for multiple reads. Disappointing.
