Philips BDP2100 Blu-ray/DVD Player

This is my first review on a product bought through this site but I was so impressed with this blu ray player, I thought I'd say a few words about it. The Philips BDP2100 is ( in my opinion ) a brilliant blu ray player at a decent price. This player is able to play ANY format you could possibly think of with no problems at all. It even plays files that my desk top PC struggles with! The loading is fairly quick on discs and files on a USB stick. The picture is absolutely outstanding with DVD up-scaling that brings new life to my old black & white movies in my collection. It also has a resume play feature which my previous blu ray player disappointingly lacked, which is very handy when you need to turn off the player and watch your film later on. The on screen display is also quite large so you don't have to strain your eyes to see how long the film has left to play. It starts the film automatically where you left it every time. The sound quality is also very good, with a night mode feature which boosts the speech up and reduces the other sounds. This is another feature that impressed me because it's nice to hear what people are saying in the films. The only minor gripe that I have about this blu ray player is the remote control with the buttons being a little too close together for my liking. Overall, this is a beautiful machine. It's also tiny, but it has a nice design. If you're looking for a low budget machine with plenty of features only found in the more pricier of blu ray players, look no further. It really is that good!

Philips products have a good and long-standing reputation, but this item isn't quite up to expectations. First of all, it arrived with a continental plug and sent me searching for an adaptor to connect to UK mains. The paper 'manual' was entirely in pictogram form and required some skills in interpreting the technical hieroglyphics. Philips does supply a CD disk with the full manual, but the 16 PDF files are not clearly labeled, so you will have to guess which one is in your desired language. The unit itself is compact (a feature I was looking for), but it is shiny, cheap black plastic which doesn't have any eye appeal in a high spec entertainment system. There are only two small control buttons on the front panel (on/off and eject) and they are also in black plastic, so difficult to see at all in a dim room and hard to distinguish by feel as they are somewhat indented into the machine. That said, once you overcome these design issues, the actual video output is glorious, as Blu Ray should be. It gets the job done, but could have been so much better with a little more thought.

Philips BDP2100/DVDplayer. We received the player above on the date specified. However, it was not quite what we wanted. We were actually hoping to buy a personal, portable DVD player with blueray capabilities. We have decided to keep the player though fo use on a second TV. Thankyou.

Blue ray dvd, with divx, an excellent purchase as I pick up the film, where I left off, good for box sets!

Good easy to use Blu-ray/DVD player. Would've preferred for an GMDI cable to be included

Easy set up, simple to operate menu system on remote. Does what it says on the tin, no problems so far.

Not really a review as I just opened the box only to find out it has an American plug on it. Now I have to find a converter!
