Simplist, but honest
If you're at all familar with Chef AJ You Tube videos, this book was a repeat of information I already knew about her. Plus, it appears that she has changed her way of eating quite a bit since this book was published. There are several ingredients in her receipes that she does not allow now (assuming you want to lose weight - which I don't). If you are interested in losing weight now, buy her newer book that was just released. I will not buy it because I believe it will be a review of what I already know. She is an engaging personality and knows how to market herself and everyone else that she has on her webcasts. To say she is passionate about her diet, weight loss, health and in general the whole-food plant based, SOS-free lifestyle is an understatement ! For me, to eat her way 100% would take some joy out of my life; I do not want to live so rigidly, but I am not a food addict and am not overweight. I am vegan 95% of the time and I do not beat myself when I make other choices, like alcohol or sugar, or if there is an egg in that cake, etc. I find her a hoot to watch and listen to though.

Motivation to get you started on a healthy diet and lifestyle
Chef AJ, in her book "Unprocessed," shares nutritional advice that she has learned from experts in the field of plant-based nutrition and gives the basis for forming her own diet regime, along with explaining her diet philosophy in a readable and friendly format. AJ enthusiastically motivates the reader to go on a whole-foods, nutrient-rich, plant-based diet, with no sugar, salt, or oil. Her reasons for adopting this healthy lifestyle are personal, which she openly shares with the reader, and she is hoping to convince others to try her way of eating so that they can overcome their addictions to food, cure their chronic illnesses, and lose unwanted pounds. Chef AJ "speaks" to the reader as a friend, giving support and understanding throughout, acknowledging that for some people the gradual approach may be best, rather than to drop all processed food at once. The "Yabbut" sections addresses people's excuses, and the resource section is helpful to those who are new to this way of eating, as well as to those who have lived a healthy lifestyle for awhile. The recipes are easy to follow, and leave room for the home cook's creativity. AJ has an informative section on what to buy in the grocery store and how to stock one's home with recommended ingredients and foods. She even addresses restaurant dining and how to eat healthfully when dining out. Pictures in the book would have been useful, but one can search You Tube for demonstrations of Chef AJ preparing some of the recipes. Also, Chef AJ gives her e-mail address so that the reader can contact her with any questions. Chef AJ's cooking classes are another resource, are a lot of fun and are unlike other cooking classes because she mixes in humor and song-and-dance routines, emphasizing her lifestyle program, along with the food demonstrations. Chef AJ's wittiness is scattered throughout the paperback, which makes the book a very enjoyable read. I would recommend the book to anyone wanting to improve their diet and lifestyle, as well as their health.

Complicated recipes, many high in fat
I wanted to love this book but I just don't.The story of how Chef AJ changed her way of eating and gained her health is a great one but I was after recipes. Recipes non-vegans in my family would love. But they haven't. And Chef AJ did say that many of the recipes contained nuts which she no longer consumes herself. So many ingredients. Making such large quantities. I'm thinking specifically of her almond dressing. I blindly followed the recipe only to end up with a whole quart of dressing! High in fat! So i would only eat a little at a time. So i ended up wasting more than half as I couldnt consume it fast enough. A note at.the top stating it makes whole quart would have been helpful.

You'll Laugh, You'll Cry, You'll Make a Fabulously Healthy Dessert
Chef AJ shares her brutally honest life story along with how she gained control of her health. Now she helps others regain their health by teaching them to adopt a whole-food, plant-based lifestyle. The recipes are nothing short of miraculous! The book is infused with humor and heart. Buy one for you and one for a friend.

Not what I was expecting
Not quite what I was expecting. First I will say I have not made anything from this book, there are really only a few recipes that appeal to me. Kind of turned off that dates seem to be an ingredient for most recipes. I am also not a cook that does things "to taste", I'm just not that good. In several of the recipes it specifies to "add dates to taste" - I would prefer the author writes what amount she likes and then the cook can adjust to taste. Her story narrative was interesting, but odd that she mentions how high in sugar dates are, but she uses them a lot. There are some ingredients I've never heard of like dulse, I can look it up and maybe find it somewhere. The recipes don't seem overly difficult except for a few which have lots of ingredients. I wish there were more entrees, less desserts. I don't really like the way the recipes are written as it sometimes seems like a step is left out. Additional things missing: Amount of servings per recipe - some of the recipes seem like they would feed an army - this also helps determine monetary value of making it and menu planning, no pictures of any of the recipes is a real bummer (pics tend to incite motivation to make the dish) and there is no nutritional information - I understand the reasoning - but for people who need the nutritional information it would be nice to include so we don't have enter the entire recipe in another computer program to figure it. I much prefer the forks over knives books to this one.

Finally, recipes which excite me
I adopted a plant based diet for health reasons, but I also need to drop a few pounds. I’ve flirted with many dr/chef books and while all the science is sound, the one thing I never been thrilled about are the recipes. Finding chef AJ is a delight. I want to try all her recipes. I’m so pleased to,have finally found a set of recipes which will help me stick to this whole foodsD plant based way of living.

Great Information !
I bought this book after reviewing her videos on YouTube. Unfortunately, this vegetarian, whole foods, no meat, way of eating does not work for me. There are just too many carbs, I just blow up like a balloon when I eat like this. The book is nicely laid out, and is very easy to read. There are a number of delicious recipes that I have incorporated into my diet. Delivery was perfect as usual, thanks to Prime Amazon, and the book itself, was in perfect condition. Brand new!
