The Beadsmith Digital Caliper, 4 inch/100mm, Carbon Fiber, On/Off Button, LCD Display

I own 2 very good digital calipers made by Neiko and General. The only problem I have is they are fairly long and just a tiny bit heavy and I wanted something shorter - easier to handle in one hand (I'm a female).I bought this caliper and it's going to be close enough if you don't need to be super precise, but if it's accuracy you're after, I don't think you'd be looking at these in the first place.Just because I wanted to know how these measured up accuracy wise, I did a couple of tests using all three calipers. I zeroed out the calipers before beginning each test.I did a test measuring the OD of the same smooth, round bead. I drew a line in the center of the bead's circumference to ensure measuring the same place.Results:BeadSmith - 7.9mmGeneral - 8.06mmNeiko - 8.04mmNext, the ID of a closed jump ringBeadSmith - 4.2mmGeneral - 4.45mmNeiko - 4.44mmOne thing that I don't like about the BeadSmith caliper is the sliding part of the device is a tiny bit loose and can move if you simply brush it when it's stored upright, turning it on. I like to keep it with my files, upright in a pencil cup near my bench. Any inadvertent movement of the caliper and it turns on. I'm pretty sure the same thing would happen if you kept it in a drawer you rummage through often. It does have an auto shut-off feature, but depending on how often it's disturbed, you can get a lot shorter battery life out of it. There needs to be more tension or a way to adjust the tension. That would also allow you to easily transfer a measurement.Pros: - Lightweight - Easy to handle with one hand - Clear display, easy to read - Battery easily accessible to change and standard batteries - Easy to switch between mm and inches - Auto shut-off - Accuracy - close enough for my purposes. I have great calipers if I need to be super preciseCons: - No way to adjust tension of the movable part of the caliper

I love that this is easy to use and it gives you close to perfect accuracy on bead sizing. The flaw lies in the fact that it doesn't seem to ever cut off! You think you have it turned off only to look over and see it is lit up. Also, it almost always comes up with a -0 reading and you have to keep resetting it to 0 to use it.In summation, it will serve the purpose but if there is a digital caliper out there that does not have the issues I mentioned I would likely go with it.

This is the only caliper I've ever used, it's easy to work with and accurate. My only problem is, after I turn it off, if caliper moves/slides (even slightly) it immediately turns back on, so the battery gets low pretty quickly and the numbers on the screen start to fade. To stop this from happening after replacing the battery, I just wrap it with a hair band when I'm done using it (see pic.)

I both make jewelry and sell jewelry. You need to have great tools to help you make the right decisions in purchasing the correct size stones, crystals, findings, etc. This is a great product.

I find myself measuring everything with this... I make jewelry and this helps me make my mockups more accurately and also order findings and pieces that’ll fit as expected. I think it’s pretty accurate though I haven’t tested it against anything else

The quality is good and the measurement is accurate

Was excited when I received this only to discover it did not work properly. I returned it with no issues and will be purchasing a different one soon.

Item worked exactly as described

Easy to use, this lightweight caliper is accurate enough for crafting and general handy work and is compact enough to keep close at hand. Primarily plastic the parts glide with ease. My only issue thus far is the way the slightest bump turns the calipers on. I am constantly having to check that it stays off whenever I put it down, the on/off switch seems to be just a suggestion. Because I can never be sure it won’t turn back on I have to take the battery out when I am done working on a project for the day. Doesn’t seem like a major deal but it does get old real quick when you have to reinstall the battery every morning.These calipers are clearly made for crafters (and are great for such) so I would not recommend them for any builds requiring pinpoint accuracy or heavy duty work.
