Best camera, there ll be a heating issue, and battery discharge fast, recommend not to turn on/off often. let the cam be in sleep mode while the recording is passed.

Out of the box, the first thing you need to do is "activate" the device using the insta360 app. There's no way to avoid this, and the camera will not function in any way until it is complete. For the first two days I was unable to create an account. It sent a confirmation code that I had to enter, but that never arrived. After some back and forth with support (and almost giving up and returning it) I created a new email at gmail, and used that to register. That worked. Once I got the confirmation code, and the account was created, the camera linked to the app, and updated its firmware. Other than possibly for future firmware updates, I have no other use for the app. There's a bunch of stuff in there that I'm just not interested in at all. That the camera is a brick until you activate it is the only negative thing I have to say about this device. It's a shame they were so short-sighted to insist that you jump through these unnecessary hoops. This is the only thing holding me back from giving this device a 5 star review. Now the good: The quality of the video is outstanding, and is better than my DSLR video at twice the price. I'm not the intended audience for an "action" camera. While I tested out (and was impressed by) the stability tracking walking while filming, that wasn't why I bought it. I intend to use it in a 'static' environment, mounted on a tripod, as an additional angle, almost exclusively indoors, and in not well-lit enviroments. It absolutely excels at low-light filming. It's really amazing how little noise there is on the image. The flip-up screen is great for seeing yourself if you were doing vlog style videos. Being designed as an action camera, it's really small, and lightweight, allowing you to put them in places that would be hard to fit a regular camera. I do wish it had a 1/4" screw thread on the bottom, but luckily I had an adaptor. It's a little tricky to get the SD card out, but given that you can just hook up the camera in USB mode, and pull the files off that way, it's unlikely I'll need to take it out too often. In my first test, I recorded (in 8k) for around 40 minutes, and the battery was still going strong. It does split files in 30 minute chunks, but they joined together seemlessly when I put them side-by-side in Davinci Resolve. The audio is acceptable. Not as good as from a dedicated mic, but good enough for most needs. Would I buy another ? Most likely. It's hard to think what features a newer model would bring that I'd really need that this doesn't have, but if I were looking for additional angles in my multi-cam setup, this is what I'd go for.

I purchased this AFTER I had purchased the DJI Pocket 3, and the DJI Action 5. I hadn't purchased the X5 yet, but now that I do own it, I'll add my two cents on all of them in a quick summery. So the Insta 360 Ace Pro 2 produces a fantastic image at 8K, and is pretty much on par with the DJI Action 5 at 4K. As I always say with most of these Action Cameras, all things are sharp in the image (the subject, the back round, everything around it too). You won't get any kind of blurry bokeh with this unit unless you do some post processing using some Video Applications on your PC or MAC. If you want that blurry back round effect, you're going to need to go the route of the DJI Pocket 3 at a lower F Top. I'd say the Battery Life on this is a solid 7 out of 10, and you're not going to get the length of the DJI Action 5 with this Ace Pro 2. I will say that the Ace Pro 2 has a better night capabilities, and doesn't produce as much noise like the Action 5 does at night. If you haven't purchased an action camera yet, and are torn say between THIS Ace Pro 2 and the newly released Insta 360 X5, I honestly would go for the X5 because there are just simply way more features out of the box, and the app that you can utilize with it is simply amazing. If you already have the Ace Pro 2 in your possession, and are just getting buyers remorse before you even open the box, don't worry you've scored. It's still being praised almost every week on YouTube for it's image quality, and they have firmware updates as well. I think the Ace Pro 2 is a super duper good investment for those wanting an amazing image, and the ability for an 8K Mode as well. It doesn't have internal memory in it like the DJI Action 5 (which a minus on the point scale), but you could always get a relatively cheap Micro SD at almost 1T or 500 GB and be fine, and it won't break your bank. All in all, this Device (The Ace Pro 2) is amazing, and YES I would buy it all over again. Many accessories for it as well, and I'd strongly suggest RIGHT OFF THE BAY getting a cage for it to protect it, and a screen and lens protector as well so you don't scratch either one. :)
