Mechanism failed on the first day
We purchased this unit in January 2013. After taking it out of the box, we tried it on a couple of different chairs and a couch. We used it approximately 10 times the first day.On softer seating, it does sink in to the cusion a bit as expected. The operation of paddles used to control up and down movement were impeded by cushion. The paddles are removable, but again, the cusion will impede insertion and removal of those paddles. It will lift a person up about halfway to a standing position. It will not lift you completely out of your seat.It is rather narrow, and can become uncomfortable after extended sitting periods. After our tests of the unit in various seating situations, spaced out over several hours, the unit stopped functioning properly. The seat would rise up under load only about a third of the way, and stop moving. The motor was still running however. The unit did rise up completely with no load. It would lower all the way whether under load or not.We allowed the unit to cool, but that had no impact on the faulty operation. The unit is rated for up to 300 lbs, and we both are under that weight.Amazon accepted the item in return for a full refund.

Great for post-surgery recovery!
This device saved my father after his valve replacement. He could not use his arms to get up per the after surgery directions. He has weak legs and would have been unable to get out of his chair. This device can lift my 235lb father easily. It moves very slow but gets the job done. It also lowers him back into the chair. Make sure you only use it as a temporary device to avoid further weakening arms and legs.

Helps you stand up, but is like sitting on concrete.
Uncomfortable. I added a three inch cushions to this and it was still too hard. IT worked GREAT for helping my mom to a standing position, but it is not possible to sit on it for more than a few minutes.

Not Very Useful
The item is uncomfortable to use and slow to operate. The handle to activate the lift gets in the way and is at risk for being broken. It is not soft at all, and needs more padding. An added pad doesn't work and slides around on the device. I cannot figure out how to make it work and feel like it is described. Not to be used on wheeled chairs, and that is exactly where it is needed the most on a mobile chair. It just doesn't work for me.

Works well for sit to stand transfers from recliner chair.
This was the perfect answer to my problem of helping my elderly mother with Alzheimer's disease get out of her large Lazy boy recliner chair. I agreed with the other reviews in that the cushion is not that plush, so I added a Roho cushion on top and that seems to be ok. I have been gentle with the handle control and it seems to be holding up well. She can't shift her position well so the electronic control is ideal. 2 weeks into using it as the motor is still working well for us.

Hard as a rock, feels like you're in a highchair
It's quite, it's smooth operating and you'll wear it out fast because there in no way God's green earth are you going to be able to sit in in very long. Remember those plastic molded chairs in the cafeteria's and cheesy offices? Add 2 inches of your favorite car tire then sit down and relax. Yeah buddy.... Michelin ain't got nothin' on this for a cushy ride.It does indeed work. And it's quite too. Great gift for someone you don't really like. :)IF you're the creative type, with a lot of work you could possibly tear apart your chair and mount it inside somehow. Or get a really low sitting chair and add at least 4 inches of foam and then make a cover for it and you could get along with it. I mean if you can't afford a lift chair this will work. For how long I have no idea. The fact remains there is a serious comfort area that's been missed in the design.Think of a chair and how one is put together. Right before they put in the cushion they say DONE! Just a hair softer than our beloved molded chairs. Definitely overrides any comfort built into the chair its placed upon. Also you can't use it in anything that moves... including your car. Picture one of these in your car. I'd buy a power inverter just to entertain the kids. I can see nose prints on the windshield already. You also can't use it in the pool. It'll sink like a rock for one. And it is electric. Now that would be a power lift!Check before you buy. Some places have HUGE restocking fees. Hey, Amazon takes 15% of the income right off the bat. Then if they ship it free well when it's time to take it back all they can hope for is maybe getting some of the shipping back. And it's hefty. Can't wait to find out how much I paid just so I could write this review. This company was nice to me. I like them. I understand their plight. So I give them a good rating. And it IS a quality built item but it's just not fit for human use is all. Okay... maybe 10 minutes for the ride. If you're having problems getting up you're likely having problems getting around. That means you'll be sitting a lot. Trust me, you won't be very happy sitting on this. No way no how.Nice idea but has room for a LOT of "comfort" improvement. Save your money and buy a real lift chair or be prepared to make a chair around this. I could do it. Duct tape, lots of foam and one of those lovely orange cafeteria chairs I seem so fond of. It'll go well with the deep blue polyester cover that barely fits. It'll follow you around I'm sure. Like toilet paper in your shoe. Good reason to stay in bed.

Good product
This product is great. I like that it came with two handles for both sides so if you are right or left handed. I installed both handles so that I could be on either side of the chair and still operate while assisted my grandmother out of her kitchen table chair. I RECOMMEND TO NOT PUT IN A CHAIR WITH WHEELS! ESPECIALLY IF YOU ARE USING THIS FOR YOURSELF OR ASSISTING SOMEONE. The chair can roll out from under you or your loved one. If you have a chair with wheels you want this in I would then suggest you make sure the chair is against a non moving structure like a wall to ensure you don't fall. My rating was low because I do wish it went higher but it still raises enough to help my back from always lifting my grandmother. And the seat could be a little more comfortable. I made a padded seat cushion for it but you could also buy one.

NOT RETURNABLE!!! and bad
My elderly father could not reach or operate the flimsy levers, the lift angle was bad for his height and he said it was very uncomfortable to sit on. But I missed the part about it not being returnable b/c I have never seen that before on anything I ever bought from Amazon before and now stuck with expensive unusable item. Don't buy unless somehow, by magic I guess, you are absolutely certain it will work for you.
