Grandma Ann's Electric Grater for Coconut, Potato, Cassava, and Cheese Grater!

Excellent, well made, strong, reliable and durable motor machine! And safe, simple and easy to operate. Good grating blades. However my primary planned use for it was to grate normal bath sized soap bars to make my own laundry soap. A lot of us are doing so these days. The soap bars I use are not soft, but are not aged / dried hard - more like a waxy-hard cheddar cheese - and it slowed the machine and gunked it up. Many typical bath soap bars today are this consistancy (as many soap manufacturers don't give the soap bars time to fully dry as sopa is meant to do). The machine is made for harder consistancy. You'd probably be fine grating a hard aged parmesan, but not cheeses more towards cheddar consistancy. Also it would probably be fine for Fels Naptha laundry soap bars which I used previously and are hard-dried. If grating soap bars for laundry soap or grating softer consistancy cheeses this machine is not made for that. If you have a question about grating a particular item that is not listed, contact the seller before purchasing. However, having purchased and operated this machine once, this machine seemed utterly FANTASTIC and worth the investment for the many other food items the maker lists. in fact this may be the best grater out there for those listed food items! I hated to return it. I hope they'll figure out a version that grates softer cheeses and soaps. This seller is reliable and immediately provided a refund.

The main reason I brought this was to grate coconut. The coconut gratings came out well (nice and fine) even though there were small chunks of ungrated coconuts falling through the crevice which is understandable. But, I brought another food processor which did a better job than this ( and also cheaper) and cleaning this machine was more cumbersome than the food processor I brought. So I returned the machine. It may be useful for people who use it to mainly grate potatoes and other products (that is my opinion even though I haven't used the machine to grate potatoes). The customer care was very good though and was very open to suggestions.

The idea for the machine is great but the product was a disappointment. It is hard to clean after you finish using it. I purchased it last year and it needs a capacitor this year

Not very happy with this purchase.Leaves chunks and slivers in the finished product. We used as directed and still ended up with chunks in the product.Very pretty machine but that's about it! I've used potato graters for 1/3 the price of this one with much better results.

Great strong machine,but having trouble removing the grating sleeve after using. I am using it solely for grating parmagan cheese and can not remove the sleeve because the cheese is getting trapped between the shaft and the sleeve. My only complaint.

I shouldn't be writing a review on Easter morning but I needed to say how pleased I am with Grandma Ann's Grater. Grating potatoes for Polish Potato Dumplings by hand is a time consuming, bloody knuckle drudgery. This machine literally grated 15 pounds of potatoes in a few minutes which would have taken 20 times longer the old fashioned way. Now the worst part of making these potato dishes just became the easiest!When the machine arrived, the grater cylinder was out of round. I called the company and they shipped out another one that arrived the next day. Customer service was fantastic but I doubt I will need to call often because this machine is built like a tank and cleans up so easy!!!! I'm sure my Mother and Grandmother was looking down from Heaven with a few choice words when they saw how easy this machine created their old recipe.

I purchased the grater because a chef was promoting it for our Puerto Rican pasteles. I made the purchase and I get chunks of the green bananas that do not grate, making it hard to go through all the masa and its timely and messy. Other than that the product is great. Kathy

Grate design, we have had fun with this making Acadian food called Poutine's, and also potato pancakes everyone just loves them. Go for a visit and bring it along with a bag of potatoes and make a fun meal for the grandchildren. I keep it in a tote bag so it always ready to go. It's just as easy to use at home if you decide to make a small amount. Best of all my husband loves to run it and do the cooking. That being said if he's interested, it's a no brainer, and it cleans up very easily. The only draw back, is that it leaves a bit of each potato after the grind. I found that if you save them all up,and put a bunch in together most of that goes through and you only throw out a little. I use a colander with larger holes to catch the end pieces, rather than fishing them out.
